For as many crime and detective shows as there are, it’s no surprise when actors cross paths on different projects.
Sometimes it’s on purpose, other times it just happens to work out that way. For example, “NCIS” is actually a spin-off of “JAG.” This means that a couple of “NCIS” stars appeared with “JAG” actors before getting their own spotlight.
Diane Neal, who played Casey Novak on “Law & Order: SVU” from 2001 to 2012, also appeared on several episodes of “NCIS.”
She played Coast Guard Investigative Service Agent Abigail Borin on the series from 2010 to 2014. She was still a main cast member on “Law & Order: SVU” when she appeared as a guest star on “NCIS.” Her first appearance was in the episode called “Jurisdiction” from 2010.
Diane Neal’s character works with the team to solve a murder. Everyone is investigating the death of a diver and a captain when Gibbs and the team meet two special agents from the CGIS. They are similar to the rest of the gang and work pretty well together.
She appears all together in six different episodes as her Special Agent character. Her very last appearance is on “The San Dominick” episode from 2014. Diane Neal has a pretty big role in this episode. She is leading the “NCIS” team on a training exercise. While doing so, Gibbs spots a man overboard and gets onto another ship. The ship is overtaken by pirates.
Diane Neal is really no stranger to crime shows. In addition to “NCIS” and “Law & Order: SVU,” she has appeared on “NCIS: New Orleans” for three episodes and has had very small roles in “White Collar,” “Law & Order: Trial by Jury,” “The Following” and “Suits.”
‘Law & Order: SVU’ and Diane Neal
Diane Neal has had some drama regarding her “Law & Order: SVU” days.
On the show, her character violates due process and is forced to stop working with the Special Victims Unit. Her last appearance is in the episode “Valentine’s Day.”
According to Vanity Fair, at this time, Diane Neal was dealing with things in her personal life. She had a very public split-up with her celebrity magician boyfriend, JB Benn. She filed a lawsuit against Benn saying that he both physically and sexually abused her. Neal also said that he stalked her and tried to sabotage her career.
He then filed a countersuit against her. She said that Neal once talked about her former “Law & Order: SVU” cast members negatively. That countersuit claims she called her co-stars “awful people,” except for Ice-T. Her ex-boyfriend also claimed she said derogatory things about Mariska Hargitay or Captain Olivia Benson on the show.
According to Page Six, she strongly denied all these allegations. “There is no truth to this at all. Most of the people I’ve worked with are amazing, I love almost everyone I’ve ever worked with … Mariska and I were not the closest, but that doesn’t mean we have any animosity towards each other, we’re still very supportive of each other. She’s a great mom, she’s great as Benson, she’s doing great charity work. I have never talked about the cast members like this, it’s salacious and untrue.”
