NCIS’ Brian Dietzen has long been a series favorite, playing Dr. Jimmy Palmer on the popular CBS investigative drama since it premiered in 2004.
While his career is certainly one to be proud of, Dietzen is like most of us, wishing we had at least a moment to give some advice to our younger self.
Of course, we are pretty sure there aren’t a whole lot of things Dietzen would convince his younger version to do differently. His career is certainly one that dreams are made of.
However, there are a few words the NCIS star would like to tell a young Brian Dietzen if he were ever given the chance.
“Don’t hurry too much,” Dietzen would tell his younger self.
“You have your whole life to be a grown-up,” the actor continues.
“And don’t beat yourself up for making mistakes,” the NCIS star adds of the advice he would dispense. “They happen to everyone. Often.”
The NCIS actor adds that he would make sure to tell his younger self that effort makes all the difference. But he adds, you can never forget the pants, he jokes.
“90 percent of success is just showing up. With pants on,” Dietzen jokes of his final advice. This advice is, of course, a little piece of wisdom we could all benefit from listening to on a daily basis.
“Wear pants if you’re going to a meeting,” the NCIS star quips.
‘NCIS’ Star Embraces The Challenges His Longterm Role
Brian Dietzen has been portraying the slightly awkward and definitely quirky Jimmy Palmer on NCIS for the show’s entire nineteen-season run.
During the actor’s few seasons playing on the popular series, Dietzen’s Jimmy Palmer was a part-time player. However, the character was soon promoted to the main cast within the CBS drama’s first few years on the air.
Dietzen is quick to note that he thoroughly enjoys portraying Palmer on the popular series. However, the actor does note that there have been some challenges along the way.
“One of the challenges is not to rest on our laurels and repeat what we’ve done in the past,” the NCIS star explains in a recent interview.
“It’s to continue to have the character grow and to create new challenges and opportunities for the character while sticking true to what brought us here,” Brian Dietzen continues in an interview with Starry Mag.
Primarily, making sure that his character is able to grow throughout the show’s run. Making sure he keeps up with what he calls NCIS’s “long-term storytelling.”
“Sticking to the same DNA that Jimmy has grown up with,” the actor adds, noting that the growth is important, but it’s also important that the character remains at his core, the one that audiences have grown to love.
“Not changing him completely,” Dietzen explains of the challenges he feels playing Jimmy Palmer as he grows over the years. “But having him evolve enough so the audience feels they are growing with the character.”
