Count new NCIS star Katrina Law among those who are mourning the loss of cinemaphotographer Halyna Hutchins.

Hutchins worked behind the scenes on movies and was a rising star in Hollywood. But on Thursday, actor Alec Baldwin accidentally shot her with a prop gun thought to be loaded with blanks. The two were on location in New Mexico, filming the western, Rust. There have been no arrests as local police investigate.

The NCIS star posted a photo on Instagram of Hutchins. She captioned it “Just tragic for everyone involved.”

Law wasn’t the only NCIS cast member who shared thoughts for what appears to be a horrific accident. Brian Dietzen, who plays Jimmy Palmer on the show, posted on Twitter:

“My God. So heartbreaking to hear about Halyna Hutchins’ death. Thinking of her and her family today.”

He also wrote, “As always, #safetyonset is absolutely paramount while filming.”

News broke Friday that members of the Rust movie crew walked off the set before the prop gun was fired to protest working conditions. The Los Angeles Times reported that at least six members of the camera crew left the set to protest the low-budget movie’s “long hours, long commutes and waiting for their paychecks.” A source told the Times that standard safety procedures weren’t being followed. At least one camera crew member complained to a production manager about gun safety last weekend.

Law Starts First Full Season on NCIS

NCIS producers elevated Law to permanent cast for season 19 after she appeared in the last few episodes earlier this spring. She takes the place of Emily Wickersham, who portrayed popular character Ellie Bishop, who left NCIS after the season 18 finale.

Law’s best plotline this fall was when she went undercover to gather intelligence on Sonova Industries. Law, as Jess Knight, was part of a focus group judging the smells of deodorant. She ended up stealing an ID that allowed her to gather some top secret info. The CEO of Sonova was one of two people who paid a hitman to murder those standing in the way of building an Alaskan copper mine.

NCIS still is finding its way in the post-Gibbs era. Mark Harmon bowed out of the show after episode four earlier this month. Gibbs decided to stay in Alaska rather than heading home with McGee. He said it was the first time he felt at true peace since his wife and daughter were murdered years before.

NCIS takes a break from new episodes this Monday. It returns Nov. 1 for an episode called False Start. The agents investigate the murder of a Naval commander who trained some of the country’s top athletes.
