In a tragic turn of events, 41-year-old actor Heath Freeman has passed away. Freeman made a big impact as an actor on shows like NCIS and Bones. Here’s who he played.

On NCIS, the actor played Benjamin Frank on the episode Minimum Security in 2003. It was one of the earlier episodes. He became a part of a long tradition of NCIS hiring great actors in smaller guest roles.

But his role on Bones was incredible. He played the recurring role of Howard Epps from 2005 to 2007. Bones went on for 12 seasons, but Howard Epps is arguably the most terrifying. Epps was a serial killer who directly threatened Brennan and her team of scientists multiple times. He managed to convince them he was innocent, getting out of jail and then going on a reign of terror.

The part only worked so well due to Freeman’s acting.

Heath Freeman Was Also a Writer

On top of his acting background, Freeman was also a writer. He wrote and starred in a film called Skateland and opened up about that experience in an interview.

“I always wanted to write about this roller rink. Kinda center something around this roller think that we all grew up in Longview, Texas. Which is kind of this. I mean, it’s a lot nicer in this film, but in all actuality, it was a pretty run-down place,” he told the Daily actor in 2011.

He noted that it was interesting juggling his duties as a writer and an actor for the film.

“I knew I was gonna play the part but it wasn’t like, I separated myself during the writing process. And then once, it’s a big shift that happens when I stop being the producer and writer and then going to being an actor. I wear a lot of hats during the movie,” he said.

Heath Freeman also worked as a producer on multiple projects including Jimi: All is By My Side, and Skateland, so he really did wear a lot of hats for that film.

Freeman had an academic background in film and acting. He studied at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts with a focus on film and acting. His role on NCIS marked one of his first roles on National TV. The cause of Heath Freeman’s death has not been revealed. The news was confirmed by actress Ashley Benson as well as Shanna Moakler.

“Heartbroken to hear of the loss of my dear friend Heath Freeman, talented actor, director, producer, outstanding chef, and a solid friend,” Moakler wrote. “You will be so dearly missed and I will cherish every amazing memory we all had…. and we have a lot of great ones!! Godspeed.”
