It’s that time of year again. Hallmark and Lifetime are gearing up for a season of warm and cheery holiday romances, and plenty of network shows are getting ready to air their Thanksgiving and Christmas-themed episodes. Can we expect the same from NCIS?
The answer is a resounding no. At least, it is according to TV Line. A recent article from the outlet found one of their resident experts answering fan questions. One asked if the NCIS franchise had any Christmas action in store for the holiday season.
The long-running CBS hit franchise doesn’t have any Christmas-themed episodes in the pipeline. And yes, that applies to all three of the active NCIS series. At least they’re consistent. Although “Christmas in Hawaii” could have had some potential as an episode idea. It looks like fans of the newest NCIS offering and the original alike will have to wait until next year at the earliest for another chance at some holiday action.
But is it all bad that a gritty crime drama would opt to forego a Christmas episode? Well, NCIS fans certainly would have liked to see the new characters in all of their holiday glory. After all, they’ve had decades to get to know the likes of McGee (Sean Murray) and Ducky (David McCallum). It could be nice to see a more personal side of Parker (Gary Cole) and Knight (Katrina Law).
At the end of the day, there’s no telling exactly why the franchise decided against Christmas-themed action. Perhaps the writers simply didn’t see any good opportunities given the nature of the current season. Mark Harmon’s Leroy Gibbs is out, and some new faces are making themselves known. The same could be said for NCIS: Hawaii as a brand new show, but it’s hard to pinpoint an exact reason.
‘NCIS’ Fans Got the Next Best Thing on a Recent Episode
So there may not be an expressly Christmas-themed episode in the works. But fans got to witness a Hallmark Christmas reunion in recent weeks, whether they realized it or not. Heck, the guest star herself didn’t even know it was happening until she showed up on set.
As it happens, new NCIS cast addition Katrina Law starred in a Hallmark Christmas movie with recent guest star Patricia Richardson.
“When I got there, I hadn’t watched this season, and I didn’t know that Katrina Law had joined, and Katrina and I — one of the best I ever did was with Katrina, and it was called Snow Bride,” “And so when I saw her, I was like, ‘Katrina!’ I’ve been following her on Instagram ever since. So I’ve watched her have her baby, and I had no idea she’d be there,” Richardson told TV Insider.
