‘NCIS’ Star Wilmer Valderrama is Touched After New Movie Dominates at Box Office

NCIS star Wilmer Valderrama took to social media on Sunday to express his emotions after seeing his new movie do well at the box office.

Wilmer Valderrama is doing big things, folks. You may remember him as Fez on That ’70s Show where he starred from 1998 until 2006. Or perhaps you recognize him from his more recent role in NCIS. Valderrama plays Special Agent Nick Torres in the military crime drama.

However, if you haven’t heard yet, Valderrama is also one of the stars in the new Disney movie, Encanto. Directed by Byron Howard and Jared Bush, the movie is set in a location in Columbia called the Encanto. That’s where the Madrigal family lives and they have special powers.

Starring alongside the likes of John Leguizamo and Diane Guerrero, Valderrama plays the family patriarch Agustin Madrigal in the film. It was released nationally in theaters on November 24. And based on the projected box office figures, it looks like the movie is going to be a smashing success.

The NCIS and now Encanto star posted a photo on his official Instagram account with the title “Box Office: ‘Encanto’ Leads With Projected $43.2 Million Opening”. Alongside that, he wrote a touching message to celebrate.

“I mean…the love, culture and family in this movie spoke loud, thanks to you!” Valderrama captioned his post. “Thank you for loving our Familia Madrigal!”

“I am so happy and so proud of all of you who made this happen,” one fan commented.

“It was amazing!” another person said. “My children loved it!! Thank you for participating in a movie that represents our culture well!! #proudhispanic”

“Best Disney movie so far, hands-down. PUNTO,” wrote a third fan.

Diversity is Very Important to the ‘NCIS’ and ‘Encanto’ Star

There is no question that the movie Encanto hits close to home for someone like Wilmer Valderrama. The NCIS star first moved to the United States in his early teens. However, he didn’t necessarily think he would make it in film and television. He explained how diversity in the industry is important to him.

“It’s very important to me,” he told the Australian Morning Show in 2018. “When I first got to the United States back in ’93 or ’94, I didn’t see myself in television. Or at the very least, I didn’t see myself in television with aspirational roles that made me want to be that or think that I could.”

Meanwhile, the star actor makes sure to put his money where his mouth is. He works in a number of different ways to promote diversity in the U.S.

“Diversity is something that is critical and is very urgent in America,” he continued. “We need to normalize a lot of our minorities. Specifically in this national conversation as we have this interesting look to immigration. It’s important that. young people see themselves in television and normalize the conversation of diversity. Because that’s what America is, right?”
