If Mark Harmon quits playing Jethro Gibbs on CBS’s “NCIS,” then would an actor on “Criminal Minds” be a good replacement?

That’s what one online discussion is all about. Some devout “NCIS” fans got down and discussed the possibility of having Thomas Gibson of “Criminal Minds” join the crew.

Gibson, who had been with the CBS show since it started, is off of “Criminal Minds.” He reportedly got involved in an altercation with a writer, according to Variety. Gibson also had some other behavior that didn’t sit well with the show. But he’s been written off “Criminal Minds” as of back in 2016.

Fans have long memories and they remember him in his role as Aaron Hotchner. Obviously, one question might be if he would be accepted back on CBS after his off-screen behaviors.

‘NCIS’ Fans Toss Out Gibson, Weatherly As Possible Replacements

As hit on by Looper, over on Reddit, a thread was started about thinking of Gibson as a Gibbs replacement. A fan writes, “[It’d] be interesting….Great leader, smart and watches over his team but also emotionally distant at times.”

Then that personal life stuff comes up for “NCIS” fans after the initial thread starter. What about Michael Weatherly? He played Tony DiNozzo before leaving in the show’s 13th season. DiNozzo went to care for his daughter and seek answers regarding his partner’s death.

Weatherly is a bit preoccupied right now as he stars in the CBS show “Bull.”

Other Redditors chimed in and thought “NCIS” should end when Gibbs leaves. That way, any other “NCIS” episodes would not have to air with another leader for the team.

Harmon Still On Show As It Approaches Season 19 On CBS

Harmon isn’t leaving this season, though he will be part of fewer episodes as Gibbs.

The still-popular show finds itself debuting for Season 19 on Monday, Sept. 20. Fans that are used to seeing it on Tuesday nights will have to adjust their habits a little. “NCIS” will air at 9 p.m. Eastern, 8 p.m Central. It will be a lead-in to a new spin-off, “NCIS: Hawai’i” with Vanessa Lachey in its lead role.

Besides Harmon, co-star David McCallum, who plays Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard, is the only one who has been on since Season 1, Episode 1. He comes back for Season 19 while Gary Cole and Katrina Law join the show as regular cast members.

“NCIS” also has two other spin-offs in its franchise of shows. “NCIS: Los Angeles” will start its 13th season on Oct. 10. Chris O’Donnell, LL Cool J, and Daniela Ruah are among this show’s stars. “NCIS: New Orleans” saw its seven-season run end on May 23. Scott Bakula and Lucas Black were among this show’s regular cast members.
