New Film Featuring Nicole Kidman Will Share Untold Stories of Lucille Ball’s Life

An upcoming film will explore the untold stories of “I Love Lucy” star Lucille Ball’s Life. Nicole Kidman will bring the sitcom star to life in the upcoming film “Being the Ricardos.”

The name of the film is taken from the popular sitcom couple’s surname. During the film, both Ball and husband Desi Arnaz will experience a week from hell. The film will explore a single production week of the show “I Love Lucy” in the 1950s. During the week, both Ball and Arnaz will face challenges to their relationship and also their careers. Javier Bardem will portray Arnaz in the film.

Even all these years later, “I Love Lucy” remains a cornerstone in America’s pop culture, with re-runs keeping the Ricardos fresh and alive. Both Ball and Arnaz made a name for themselves for their savvy business tactics. They bought the rights to the episodes. At the time, re-runs and syndication were unheard of.

The Film Will Explore a Week in Lucille Ball’s Life

With writer and director Aaron Sorkin at the helm, the film promises to explore the couple’s rocky relationship as well. Sorkin is known for his exploration of real-life figures, especially within the tech space. During “Steve Jobs,” the director dealt with a similar small period of time. That entire film takes place over just three Apple product launches.

But the film is also backed by the couple’s daughter Lucie. She promises that the biopic will honor her parents, their history, and also include many of the qualities that fans are hoping for. She defended the casting choices as well. There’s been some controversy from fans of the sitcom.

Kidman has been known mostly for her dramatic acting rather than comedic elements. But the film should give her a chance to branch out and show a new side of herself. Ball was known for being very different than her on-screen character. Some have regarded her as both demanding and a perfectionist. But the actress clawed her way up in an industry during a time where many women struggled.

Meanwhile, fans wished a Cuban actor had been cast as Arnaz. But Bardem has proven himself as an actor, most notably in “No Country For Old Men.” He should give a multi-layered performance to Arnaz. The release date for the film hasn’t been announced yet.
