Jackie Kennedy was one of the most famous First Ladies to ever grace the Oval Office. A new biopic will bring the former First Lady to life.

According to Deadline, Gemma Arterton will portray Kennedy in the feature film “37 Heavens.” Arterton is known for starring in “Quantum of Solace” and “Clash of the Titans.”

“37 Heavens” will focus on a specific moment within Jackie Kennedy’s life. The film will explore a rumored relationship between Kennedy and Lord David Harlech. Harlech was a British diplomat, who accompanied Kennedy to Cambodia in the late 1960s. Reportedly, Guy Pearce will portray Harlech in the film. Pearce is a character actor who most recently played on “Mare of Easttown.”

Steve Austin wrote the screenplay. And Marc Munden will direct with production expected to take place early next year.

The film will explore Kennedy after the death of her husband John F. Kennedy in 1963. Picking up in 1967, Kennedy made a trip to Cambodia, accompanied by Harlech. Prior to the trip, Kennedy and Harlech grew familiar with each other after he served as British Ambassador. The film will explore the growing relationship between the two. But it will also explore Harlech’s secret mission t end the Vietnam War as well.

Jackie Kennedy Biopic Will Be Based on Letters

While the film will deploy some Hollywood liberties, it will reportedly be based in reality. According to the outlet, several letters show the blossoming relationship between Jackie Kennedy and Harlech. At one point, Harlech reportedly also proposed to Kennedy. But she rejected Harlech’s proposal of marriage.

Instead, Kennedy ended up marrying Aristotle Onassis after the trip, bringing their romance to a close.

“Upon reading Steve Austin’s vivid and intimate script, we were instantly transported to another time and place,” producer Jamie Bialkower. “The film promises to be a deeply felt romance set against the tides of history. Gemma Arterton and Guy Pearce will bring these fascinating and very human figures to life in all of their complexity, under Marc Munden’s striking directorial vision.”

Likewise, the CEO of Metro International Will Machin promised viewers will see Jackie Kennedy like they’ve never seen her before. He said the film will explore an unknown era within Kennedy’s life and show new facets of the former First Lady.

“This is an extraordinary, largely unknown chapter of the Jackie Kennedy story. Her legacy lives on, and we can’t wait to share this project with our distribution partners, knowing that they will respond to this cinematic sweeping love story with as much enthusiasm as we have,” he said.
