Nicole Kidman says her role in the new HBO limited series “The Undoing” really “took a toll” on her, according to Fox News.

The Oscar-winning actress portrays a wealthy New York City mother and wife in the show. The drama begins with the murder of the parent of one of her child’s schoolmates. Later, Kidman’s husband, played by Hugh Grant, disappears. What follows is “a chain of terrible revelations,” according to HBO’s description of the show.

Due to the intense nature of the show, Kidman says she leaned on husband Keith Urban and children, Sunday, 12, and Faith, 9, to make it through filming the challenging role.

“You’ve got to have laughs when you’re doing stuff like this. Otherwise, it’s just too harrowing,” the Emmy winner told Australia’s Sunrise morning show. “I almost work from a deeper place now and thus it’s very taxing at times.”

Luckily for Kidman, Urban and the children lived with her in New York during filming.

“My family was with me, and just to have my little girls, and Keith, and have dinner with them brings immediate reality back. Suddenly the boundaries get set,” she said.

“It doesn’t mean that I’m not thinking about [work]. That’s always going through my brain. I’m preparing for the next day, and a lot of times I’m having to learn huge amounts of dialogue,” Kidman added.
