Fans of “I Love Lucy” are getting a first look at Nicole Kidman with that iconically unforgettable red-orange hairstyle. Kidman is playing Lucille Ball in the upcoming film, “Being the Ricardos.”

It is currently in production and Kidman is starring in the film alongside Javier Bardem as Desi Arnaz. The movie will cover a week of production behind the scenes of the classic sitcom. It also tells the highs and lows of the couple’s relationships and career.

Rumors of the film circulated long before it was officially in the works. Fans of “I Love Lucy” were hesitant on casting iconic people like Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. In fact, some fans initially stated that Nicole Kidman didn’t seem like the right fit.

Nicole Kidman is known for a variety of mostly drama-filled roles. This includes “The Hours,” “Rabbit Hole,” “Cold Mountain,” and “Big Little Lies.” However, Kidman is not going to be playing Lucy Ricardo, rather she is playing Lucille Ball. The movie is a biographical drama, rather than a replication of the comedic sitcom.

For fans that were hesitant at first, the movie has released some photos from the set of “Being the Ricardos” that could potentially ease the stress.

According to Entertainment Online, while Kidman and Bardem released a casting controversy, both have expressed excitement on landing the role. Kidman has said, “I love Lucille” and is excited to branch out of her normal roles. Debra Messing, who once portrayed Ball during a “Will & Grace” episode, campaigned for the role but was turned down. She looks very similar to Lucille Ball.

“I was like, ‘Yeah, I would love to give it a go. With Aaron’s words and his direction and Javier… that’s kind of a wonderful prospect to, you know. But yikes, off we go. Give it a go. Try my best — see if I can do it,” Kidman told Variety.

A part of the controversy also circulated around Javier Bardem. He is a popular Spanish actor, but Arnaz was Cuban-American.

Nicole Kidman has also gotten the seal of approval from a very important person. Lucie Arnaz, Desi and Lucille’s daughter, spoke out on Facebook in support of the casting in the upcoming Aaron Sorkin film. While there will be elements of humor, the actors are playing her parents more than they’re playing the on-screen “I Love Lucy” couple.

“Nobody has to impersonate Lucy Ricardo nor do the Vitameatavegamin routine, or … any of the silly things. It’s the story of Lucille Ball, my actual mother, not Lucy Ricardo, and her husband, Dezi Arnaz, my dad, not Ricky Ricardo. Aaron has done a wonderful job of bringing these characters to life, and it’s just a little … slice of life in their journey. It’s not the whole story. It’s not a biopic from cradle to grave,” she said.

New Fan Reactions to Kidman as Lucille Ball

Now that production has started, fans are really getting more of an inside look at the “Being the Ricardos” movie. It has also been made more and more clear over the past month what exactly the movie is about. It was more unclear before.

Some fans are excited to get to see even more of Kidman as Lucille Ball. The current photos really just showcase her new iconic hair.

Meanwhile, other people are still worried that Kidman doesn’t have the right look or requirements to play Ball on the big screen.

For clarification, Nicole Kidman is not exactly in the middle of filming three shows. Her new TV series, “Roar,” is currently in pre-production and is not yet filming. “The Northman” film, where she will be playing Queen Gudrun, is now in post-production. Similarly, her highly anticipated TV mini-series, “Nine Perfect Strangers,” is also in post-production.

While she may not be filming three roles, she clearly is in high demand in Hollywood. She’s won a number of major awards and was the highest-paid actress in 2006, 2018, and 2019.
