Norm Macdonald Coming After O.J. Simpson After His Acquittal is Still a Classic SNL Moment: VIDEO

Norm Macdonald may no longer be with us, but the comedian’s jokes will live on forever. Especially those he made about O.J. Simpson after his infamous murder trial.

Macdonald, the legendary comedian, passed away on Tuesday after a nine-year battle with cancer. He was only 61 years old. No one really knew what kind of health battles he had been dealing with. But it is clear that for whatever reason, the stand-up comic wanted his battle to be kept private.

You may recall that early in his career, Macdonald began in Hollywood as a writer on The Dennis Miller Show and Roseanne. But his career really took off before joining Saturday Night Live in 1993. He was a cast member on the show for five years and even anchored the Weekend Update segment for three seasons.

However, he was fired from his position in 1997 by NBC executive Don Ohlymeyer. According to Macdonald, the reason he was let go was for making jokes about O.J. Simpson, who was a close friend of Ohlmeyer, after the murders of Simpson’s ex-wife, Nicole, and her friend Ronald Goldman.

The video compilation below pieces together some of Macdonald’s very best jokes about the O.J. Simpson trial. And it begins with a hilarious introduction from Macdonald. Take a look:

“Breaking: Murder is now legal in the state of California.”

Fans of Norm Macdonald Remember Him on Social Media

Let’s make no mistake about it — Norm Macdonald will be missed terribly. And although his refusal to stop putting O.J. Simpson on blast during his trial ultimately got him fired from Saturday Night Live, the jokes help solidify him as one of the greatest comedians of all time.

On Tuesday in the wake of his death, fans of Norm Macdonald and Saturday Night Live took to Twitter to express their emotions. Not only that, but many people shared their thoughts on the situation with Macdonald and O.J. Simpson.

“That’s right @normmacdonald was fired by #DonOhlmeyer because of his jokes that he knew were correct about #OJ!” one person tweeted. “That’s a reason to let him go? Well, he knows he was wrong now! Actually probably well before this happened. We lost a tremendous talent today. RIPNormMacdonald”

“I was 8 when this all happened,” one fan recalled. “It was funny then, it’s hilarious now.”

After his stint on Saturday Night Live, Macdonald eventually moved on and began his own comedy series. On The Norm Show, the Quebec City native played an NHL player who had been busted for gambling and tax evasion and was sentenced to community service. In addition, the star comedian also went on to make appearances on late-night television shows with David Letterman and Conan O’Brian.

Survivors of Norm Macdonald include his mother, Ferne; his son, Dyland; and his brothers Neil and Leslie.
