Have you already watched all of the available episodes of “Yellowstone”? Do you still want to watch something starring Kevin Costner?
Well, you should head on over to Netflix. But be warned, one of the movie star’s classic films won’t be available on the streaming service for long.
The film that will be leaving Netflix in the near future is “Waterworld,” according to Pop Culture. Costner fans “only have a few days left” to catch the “Yellowstone” star’s work in this famous film on the streaming service.
“Waterworld” was released in 1995. A summary of the plot available on IMDb, reads: “In a future where the polar ice-caps have melted and Earth is almost entirely submerged, a mutated mariner fights starvation and outlaw ‘smokers,’ and reluctantly helps a woman and a young girl try to find dry land.”
Kevin Costner stars as Mariner. Joining him in the cast are: Jeanne Tripplehorn as Helen; Dennis Hopper as Deacon; Tina Majorino as Enola; and Michael Jeter as Old Gregor.
‘Waterworld’ Cost $175 Million to Make
“Waterworld” was a very, very expensive movie to make. In fact, until “Titanic” came along in 1997, this Costner film held the title for the most expensive film ever made. Its budget was in the neighborhood of $175 million. The cost of just the floating Atoll set used in the film was $22 million.
The movie was popular with fans, but it was not with many critics. Even though it was popular, the money it made when it was released did not cover its $175 million price tag. Luckily though, in-home video sales helped that immensely. At the end of the day, this film from “Yellowstone” star Kevin Costner made more than $264 million.
The production of “Waterworld” also took a long time. Costner, for example, worked for 157 days on the set of the film. He worked six days a week. Actress Tina Majorino was stung by a jellyfish on three different occasions during filming. This earned her the nickname “Jellyfish Candy” from the film’s crew. Also, going swimming was something actress Jeanne Tripplehorn refused to do months after the filming of “Waterworld” was completed.
