When auditioning for a new role, most actors tend to keep their character’s reactions as contained and realistic as possible. But for soap operas and apparently American Horror Stories, the key is to “overact,” according to star Macaulay Culkin. So when goddaughter Paris Jackson received this advice, she did exactly that at her audition. And, it paid off. Both Culkin and Jackson will be featured in the franchise.

Culkin will be starring in American Horror Story’s upcoming 10th season. Meanwhile, Jackson will fulfill a role on the similarly-named spinoff series, American Horror Stories. In the first two episodes, Jackson will play the role of Maya, a high school student that moved into the Murder House from AHS Season 1 with her two dads. Beyond that, there’s not much we know about her and Culkin’s individual roles.

“They were very, very uptight about the NDAs and things like that,” Jackson shared in an interview with E! News. However, since the star knew that her godfather already signed an NDA with American Horror Story, she felt she could ask him for advice about her audition without compromising any agreements.

The Home Alone star told her to “overdo it at certain points” and “kind of make it theatrical.”

And from the nature of the horror anthology show, the advice makes sense. With how much gore and trepidation are in American Horror Story, the actors have to portray fear in its rawest form. But when the cameras aren’t rolling, the cast always seems to be having a blast.

“I sent [Culkin] a picture of my face covered in blood and then he sent me a picture of blood in his hair,” Jackson shared. “It was cute.”

‘American Horror Story’ Star Is Protective of His Goddaughter

When American Horror Story star Macaulay Culkin isn’t giving Paris Jackson acting tips, he’s a devoted godfather that takes his guardianship role very seriously.

When Culkin was only 17 years old, late pop legend Michael Jackson asked him to look after Jackson after he was gone. The two stars were already close friends, so of course, Culkin accepted the responsibility with honor. Even throughout Culkin’s own struggle with addiction, he kept his promise to the Jackson family.

Although, the American Horror Story star won’t give very many details about his relationship with Paris Jackson, though. In an interview with Marc Maron of WTF podcast, Culkin said he is “close with Paris,” but gave little more information besides that.

“I’m going to warn you now I am very protective of her, so just look out,” Culkin told Maron. “I am a very open book when it comes to things but like with her, she is beloved by me…”

Needless to say, the two are probably very excited to be working on the same set.
