During a visit to an Art Encounter, “Pawn Stars” star Austin Lee Russell – who is better known as Chumlee – discovered a hidden treasure when he came across a print of a work of art by one of the most famous painters in history.

“Rick asked me to swing by Brett’s shop and have a picture framed while I was out and about,” Chumlee explains at the beginnings of a clip recently shared on the show’s YouTube account.

As Chumlee hands over the picture for framing inside the framing store, Brett Maly, who is a fine art appraiser, tells him about a painting they have in the shop. Turns out, it’s a painting by one of the most famous painters of the 20th century.

“I want to show you this new piece we’re bringing in for the gallery,” Brett tells the “Pawn Stars” star. “This is a Picasso. … It’s called ‘Crâne de Chèvre Sur la Table.’ It means ‘Goat Skull On Table,'” Brett also says.

Unsurprisingly, Chumlee is impressed to see this print of a painting by Pablo Picasso on display right in front of him. “It is a pretty nice piece,” Chumlee exclaims.

“It’s for sale,” Miriam, a co-worker of Brett’s, immediately tells Chumlee. Of course, the “Pawn Stars” star was immediately intrigued by the print.

Miriam also shares some of the background of the print and how it came to be in the framing store during the clip. “My friend purchased this piece 35 years ago from a gallery. It is the fourth print out of 150. Then, it was appraised at $19,500. So, I think a good asking price would be $16,000,” Miriam also says.

“This is pretty cool. So, what period of Picasso is this from?” Chumlee asks. “Around 1953,” Miriam responds.

Brett then fills Chumlee in on the creation of the print. “The printing technique, correct me if I’m wrong, this was aqua tint, which is basically an etching technique where it really gives it the look of an original watercolor. You get a lot of the color, you get a lot of the texture you wouldn’t get otherwise in a flat print. …” Brett explains. “It’s in great shape. No tears, no blemishes.”

Of course, Chumlee wants to purchase the painting. And, wisely, he runs the idea by his boss, Rick Harrison. Rick is hesitant about Chumlee’s Picasso knowledge. So, Chumlee hands the phone over to Brett. Now, it’s Brett’s job to convince Rick to let Chumlee acquire the print.

Rick appears interested and he asks the price. Miriam tells him $16,000. So, Rick asks his “Pawn Stars” co-star to go where they can talk privately. During that private conversation, Rick tells Chumlee not to pay more than $11,000 for the Picasso print.

Chumlee goes back to Miriam and offers $9,000. She declines this offer immediately and counters with $14,500. Of course, Chumlee won’t go above $11,000. He offers $10,500. Eventually, Miriam asks for $11,000. And the deal is done.
