Over the years, Rick Harrison has seen a ton of rare and unique items on Pawn Stars. When it comes to the most bizarre items he has collected, he has a few in mind.
From antiques to cars to old books and everything in between, the Pawn Stars have collected it. Back in 2015, Harrison spoke with CBS News about the show and his shop. He revealed a lot of interesting things including how many people the shop gets and the strange items they bring. Including some sensitive materials.
“I get 4,000 people a day in the pawn shop…They’re lined up all day long.” Rick continued. “I’ve got everything from seven human skulls in a duffel bag; the guys bought those from devil school actually…I just looked at that guy and said, ‘You gotta be nuts.’ I have 200-year-old Japanese porn, I have maps of the island of California, It just never ends.”
That is quite a list of things. However, they do sound like the most bizarre things ever. Not sure what the Pawn Stars are going to do with those skulls, but whatever it is I’m not sure I want to know. Let’s not even talk about the second item. What intrigues me is the map of the “island of California.” That is a very specific piece of history. At one point during the age of exploration, Europeans believed that the peninsula of California was an island, separated from the mainland. So, maps were made.
‘Pawn Stars’ and the Liberace Necklace
Legendary singer Liberace was known for his extravagant outfits and jewelry. He owned rings and other jewelry that could blind an entire room. There are few that have been able to replicate the style and boldness of the singer’s fashion. The Pawn Stars have a piece of that amazing wardrobe, in the form of a giant necklace.
A customer named Kurt came into the shop and declared he had the “most important piece of jewelry by a Las Vegas icon.” Then he showed the large medallion necklace. Rick had to have it.
“Liberace was a huge celebrity in his day. He was one of the biggest stars in Vegas. Almost 20 years after his death, he’s still a major icon. So, to have one of his signature jewelry pieces would be absolutely amazing.”
However, after negotiations stalled, things just didn’t work out. The Pawn Stars were not able to make a deal on this one. The owner came in at $25k. He showed plenty of proof it was what he claimed it was. The story was there. Even a picture of Liberace wearing the necklace! Despite that, Rick only offered $10k. The owner was not too happy with the decision.
