Pawn Stars fans know all about Austin “Chumlee” Russell by now. He’s one of Corey’s oldest friends and has been on the show from day one. However, there are a couple of other things that stick out in their minds about him. For one, he has a great sense of humor. Also, he was a pretty hefty guy until recently. Not long ago, he let the world know that he dropped 160 pounds and is looking and feeling great.
Chumlee’s weight loss journey really started when Corey decided to make some healthy changes. Like good friends do, he hopped on board with his pal’s transformation. However, eliminating processed foods and counting calories didn’t cut it for the Pawn Stars star.
Chumlee recently spoke to TMZ about his weight loss. He told them that it was tough to stick to a weight loss program. Anyone who has ever tried to drop a considerable amount of weight knows it isn’t easy. According to the publication, his weight fluctuated by about 100 pounds at a time. Finally, he tipped the scale at 350 pounds in January of 2019. At that point, Russell knew he was entering drastic times.
Drastic times call for drastic measures. Chumlee was, apparently, well aware of that. So, after years of losing, gaining, and losing again, he took a big step. Russell went under the knife and got gastric sleeve surgery. The procedure removes a large portion of the stomach which makes it nearly impossible to not lose weight. People who get the surgery usually come away with a stomach that is about the size of a banana.
Losing 160 pounds is a huge step in getting healthier. In fact, it’s like shedding a whole average adult woman. Not long ago, Chumlee posted before and after pictures of his weight loss. In the photos, he looks like two different people. However, his size isn’t the only thing that has changed. You can tell that he has more confidence now that he’s shed the pounds.
Chumlee didn’t let the surgery do all the work, though. He told TMZ that he’s living a healthy lifestyle now. That includes eating clean and healthy foods as well as hitting the gym to get those gains. That healthy lifestyle combined with the gastric sleeve surgery has helped Russell shed the pounds. If he sticks to it, he’ll be able to keep them off.
He also added that he couldn’t have done it without his support system. With any major life change, it’s important to have people around you to push you to the next step and cheer your victories, even the small ones. Working side-by-side with one of his best friends every day probably had much to do with his success.
