Philece Sampler, Star of ‘Days of Our Lives,’ Dies at 67

Former “Days of Our Lives” actress Philece Sampler has reportedly passed away at 67-years-old. Behind the screen, Sampler was acclaimed for using her voice on animated shows like “Digimon Adventure” and “The Legend of Korra.”

Fans will also remember her for her outstanding performances on one of the top soap operas of all time, “Days of Our Lives.” After news broke of her passing on Friday, her colleagues in the industry took to social media to offer their condolences.

“RIP to my funny fabulous friend, Philece Sampler, 67,” wrote actor Nelson Aspen. Aspen starred alongside Sampler in “Another World” from 1987 to 1989.

Per Aspen’s post, Samper reportedly passed away from a heart attack. Aspen added that this was “just shy of her 68th birthday. That explains why I didn’t hear from her yesterday on my own birthday: we always celebrated as Cancerian siblings. She was an amazingly energetic, loving and loyal friend.”

He also went to lengths to write an overview of Sampler’s career in his heartfelt post. Aspen made sure to list her major work. Additionally, he wrote about his memories with her off-camera, such as when the two lived together in Hollywood, breeding cats, and writing screenplays together.

He continued by writing: “She was a fan favorite and one of the most hard-working, diligent people I’ve ever known. She gave 1000% to anything she did. In a fickle business like Entertainment, I’m proud that we stayed so close right up to the very end of her life.”

During her tenure on “Days of Our Lives,” Sampler played Renee DiMera for several years in the early ’80s. However, younger fans might also know her more for her voiceover work. Towards the end of her career, she provided the English voices for Goten in “Dragon Ball Super.”

Her voice was also used as Mimi Tachikawa in the “Digimon Adventure” franchise. She also voiced Flora in the first season of “Berserk” and Mead in “The Seven Deadly Sins,” in addition to many others. She’s also the one you hear on “The Legend of Korra,” the sequel to “Avatar: The Last Airbender.”

Furthermore, she voiced the character of Toph— whose re-emergence in the series was one of the show’s most significant moments.

Off-camera, Aspen let the world know that Sampler was a firm believer in the idea of reincarnation. In his post, he wrote: “Philece was convinced she was the reincarnation of Anne Askew, an English writer and poet who had been put to death during the reign of Henry VIII. So I am going to be keeping a sharp eye out in case she comes back as someone new. If anyone can do it, SHE can! Farewell for now, my funny and fabulous friend and ‘sister from another mister.’ Rest in Peace.”
