Here’s a first look at Nicole Kidman as Lucille Ball in Aaron Sorkin’s biopic Being The Ricardos. The movie is about the team behind I Love Lucy.
Filming for Being The Ricardos began last week. And Nicole Kidman, who’s playing Lucille Ball, was quickly spotted on set in full I Love Lucy costume. She wore a shoulder-length wig, cream blouse, brown slacks, and a pale green blazer. In between takes, she wore a long black coat to stay warm. And she chatted with the crew as she waited for filming to begin.
Kidman’s co-stars were not pictured but they include, Javier Bardem as Desi Arnaz, Nina Arianda as Vivian Vance, and J.K Simmons as William Frawley.
What Does the I Love Lucy Star’s Daughter Think of the Movie About Her Parents?
The movie follows Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz as they navigate one full week of production of I Love Lucy. According to IMDB, during the week of production Lucille and Desi face one crisis that could end their careers and another that could end their marriage. The coolest thing about the movie is that it’s not about Lucy and Ricky Ricardo from the show, it’s about the real-life actors and how I Love Lucy came to be. However, many fans criticized the casting for the movie. They said that they wanted actresses like Debra Messing or Carol Cook to play Lucille Ball. During a Facebook video, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz’s daughter, Lucie Arnaz, explained why she was excited about the cast for the movie. She also talked about the concept of the movie. And said that it is a little “slice of life” from her parents’ careers.
“We are not doing a remake of ‘I Love Lucy,’ said Arnaz. “No one has to impersonate Lucy Ricardo. Nor do the Vitameatavegamin routine or the chocolate factory routine or any of the silly things. The story is of Lucille Ball, my actual mother, not Lucy Ricardo. And her husband Desi Arnaz, my dad, not Ricky Ricardo.”
Arnaz also stressed that there will still be humor in the movie, just not the type of situational or physical comedy as on I Love Lucy.
“There will be humor in the film. But it is a story of the two of them, and how they met. And what went right with finding the show, what went wrong. Their relationship, their love affair,” said Arnaz.
