‘Pioneer Woman’ Ree Drummond Explained What Food Network Production is Like in Native Oklahoma

If you have ever wondered what production is like on the set of a Food Network show, look no further. Pioneer Woman Ree Drummond has you covered.

If you are a longtime fan of The Pioneer Woman show, then you are without a doubt familiar with all of Ree Drummond’s delicious recipes. She looks right at home when she is filming the popular show. As a matter of fact, she looks so at home that many fans believe that she cooks and films episodes right from the kitchen at her home. But that is not the case.

Episodes of The Pioneer Woman are actually filmed at The Lodge on her Pawhuska, Oklahoma ranch. According to the Food Network star, The Lodge is a guest house on her property that she uses for various events and gatherings. So, when she began filming her popular cooking show back in 2011, she decided to film it there.

As for her crew, Drummond once explained that they either stay at the ranch or wherever they can rent a room.

“They stay on the ranch or they rent houses in Pawhuska, wherever they can find a bed basically,” Drummond said. She added that it can be hard for her crew to find a room during certain times of the year.

“Since the mercantile opened, it’s interesting because they’re having a hard time finding places to rent. TV is just busy. It’s the busiest thing I do, for sure. It’s also the most demanding.”

‘Pioneer Woman’ Ree Drummond Splits Work Between Her Home and The Lodge

It makes sense that Ree Drummond does most of the film work for The Pioneer Woman at The Lodge. After all, it holds a lot of people while still at the same time giving her and her audience that at-home feel.

The Lodge officially became the site of her Food Network show after she and her husband, Ladd, first renovated the property back in 2008. It now includes a test kitchen, prep space, prop room, and office. If you would like to take a tour of The Lodge, you can pick up your tickets at The Mercantile.

And while The Lodge is her main workspace, Ree Drummond says she is able to still do some work from the comfort of her actual house as well.

“Everything else I can do from home,” she explained. “I do my cookbooks at home at my own pace, but with TV production, there’s no fooling around.”

Drummond even hilariously compared having her show to having a baby.

“When it’s over, it’s like having a baby, and then you have these shows.”
