The Pioneer Woman Thanks Fans and Supporters

“I want to thank you all for your prayers for our family,” she wrote. “Caleb and Ladd are in the hospital, but we think they will both be okay. As a family, we are giving thanks today, knowing things could have been much worse. Thank you all for your love and kindness. It means a lot.”

According to a report obtained by People Magazine, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol noted that the two Drummond men were driving a Himmat Fire Truck on County Road N3660 when the collision happened.

Around 1:43 p.m. on Wednesday, the report states that Caleb was driving southbound while Ladd was driving northbound when the two trucks hit one another “head-on.” It’s believed that the accident happened due to “high winds on a gravel road.” Unfortunately, neither driver was wearing a seatbelt. This resulted in Caleb being “ejected approximately 70 feet from point of rest.”

An Update on Ladd and Caleb Drummond

21-year-old Caleb Drummond was transported to St. John Medical Center in Tulsa. Ladd, 57, refused treatment at the scene of the wreck. According to Fox 23 News, he was life-flighted later on by helicopter. Caleb was admitted in critical conditions due to head, arm, leg, and internal injuries.

It’s still unknown exactly what injuries Ladd suffered from.

Osage County Emergency Management Director Jerry Roberts told Today that Caleb was still alert when he was transported to the hospital.

“When they left with him, he was talking to me, so that’s a good sign,” says Roberts. “He never opened his eyes or nothing, but he was talking.”

Ladd and Caleb Drummond were helping firefighters in the area battle a brush fire on their property. Several ranchers and volunteer firefighters were assisting in putting out the blaze.

Roberts says the crash happened after the fire had been put on, and while firefighters were leaving the scene.

According to Roberts, the cause of the collision isn’t clear, other than the high winds blowing dust causing limited visibility. The investigation is still ongoing.
