President Donald Trump has weighed in on Twitter about recent reports that NFL ratings are way down. Sunday Night Football’s adjusted ratings were down 15 percent while Monday Night Football saw a drop of 10 percent in viewers from last year, according to Deadline and CNBC respectively.
Trump has taken issue with the NFL since Colin Kaepernick, then quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers, kneeled for the first time during the national anthem in 2016. The president on Monday tweeted, ““Cratered”. We have plenty of politics to go around without disrespecting our great American Flag or Anthem. I thought the NFL learned their lesson two years ago. The people will not put up with this (again). Just not worth it, hard to watch!”
Donald Trump has complained about players kneeling or raising a fist during the national anthem since before taking office. And he has almost taken a joy in watching as ratings for the league have fallen in recent years, pinning the blame of those players.
Though some detractors say Trump is using the NFL protests for his own political advantage.
