Anniversary of Elvis Presley’s Death

Thousands will show up for the annual candlelight vigil on August 15 at the front gates of Graceland. Elvis Presley passed away at the age of 42 on August 16. He was found unconscious in the master bathroom of his Graceland mansion where he was pronounced dead.

There was a good amount of controversy surrounding Elvis Presley’s death. His cause of death was heart failure. However, this cardiac incident was related to his longstanding drug abuse issues.

According to Town and County Magazine, Presley used a high number of different medications like opiates, barbiturates, and sedatives. His physician, Dr. George Nichopoulos, was originally implicated in his death and had his medical license suspended for three months.

During Presley’s last 20 months of his life, he reportedly took over 12,000 pills. The doctor testified he gave Elvis whatever he wanted because he knew the star would just look elsewhere if he didn’t. In 1995 he lost his medical license for good.
