Rock legend Rod Stewart and his son, Sean, were scheduled to go to trial on charges that were the result of a fight that took place on Dec. 31, 2019. However, the trial has been canceled.

It was set to begin on Tuesday, but was canceled by the judge on Thursday, Sept. 9, according to Yahoo! News.

Instead of the trial in Florida, a hearing has been scheduled. During this hearing, a plea will be discussed for the 76-year-old rocker and his 41-year-old son. The trial date was canceled and the hearing was set for Oct. 22 by Judge August Bonavita.

The plea deal will address charges placed against the Stewarts for an encounter with a hotel security guard named Jessie Dixon. Things reportedly escalated between Rod Stewart, his son, and Dixon when the guard would not allow them to enter a New Year’s Eve party on Dec. 31, 2019. The party was taking place at The Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach, Florida.

According to what Dixon told police officers following the alleged incident, Rod Stewart, Sean Stewart, and their group wanted to enter a private party. However, they reportedly did not have permission to attend. When Dixon did not allow them to enter, Stewart and company “began causing a scene.”

Rod Stewart Allegedly Punched Security Guard In the Ribcage, Report Said

At one point Jessie Dixon, who was 33 years old at the time of the alleged incident, placed one of his hands on the chest of Sean Stewart. In doing so, Dixon told Rod Stewart’s son to move away. Sean Stewart did not follow Dixon’s demand. Instead, he reportedly got “nose to nose” with the security guard.

Sean also allegedly shoved Dixon. Then, Rod Stewart reportedly hit Dixon around his left rib cage. And he allegedly did so with a “closed fist.”

Sean Stewart has commented on the alleged incident. He has said he became irritated with the security guard “due to Dixon’s interaction with him and his family.”

There were incidents to the alleged New Year’s Eve event involving Rod Stewart. These witnesses are employees of The Breakers. They have claimed that they saw Sean Stewart push Jessie Dixon. They have also claimed that they saw Rod Stewart punch him.

Also, the officer who made an arrest after the reported incident has said that the hotel’s security footage showed that the “primary aggressors” of the altercation were “Maggie May” singer Rod Stewart and Sean Stewart.

Had Rod and Sean gone to trial on the charges and been found guilty, they could have spent a year in jail, or faced probation, or been fined $1,000. The resolution to the charges has reportedly been delayed due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. The resolution has also been delayed by settlement negotiations.

Rod Stewart’s iconic career led to him being knighted in 2016 by England’s Queen Elizabeth II.
