One of the biggest television moments of the year will be happening later Saturday night. Tesla Inc. CEO Elon Musk is set to host Saturday Night Live.
Yes, you read that correctly. Elon Musk is hosting the show for the very first time, and pop star Miley Cyrus will be the musical guest. This is definitely not the first time that Saturday Night Live has gone outside the box in selecting a guest host. But James Andrew Miller, the author of Live From New York, the Complete, Uncensored History of Saturday Night Live, says that the appearance makes total sense.
“SNL’ has had a tradition of going outside of movie openings and television events and other predictable hosting invitations,” Miller said. “It’s picked hosts from all walks of life and different people from all parts of the culture.”
So, according to Miller, Musk is the perfect pick for a host that will draw in viewership, and get people talking. He could even pull in viewers who wouldn’t normally tune into the show.
“It gives an opportunity for people to see somebody who is very much in the public eye, and very much a big blip on the cultural, financial, and technological radars, and see them in a different way.”
How to Watch Elon Musk Host ‘Saturday Night Live’
There is no doubt that people are excited to watch Elon Musk perform tonight on Saturday Night Live. Even the show’s very own Pete Davidson is excited about the opportunity to work with Musk.
“I’m really excited, man. I’m going to ask him for, like, a Tesla or some s***,” Davidson told Set Meyers earlier this week on ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’. “I don’t know why people are freaking out. They’re like, ‘Oh, I can’t believe that Elon Musk is hosting!’ And I’m like, ‘The guy that makes the earth better kinda and makes cool things and sends people to Mars?'”
For those who are interested in tuning into the episode, you can watch it live on NBC or on the NBC website. However, to watch on the network’s website will still require a cable subscription.
Meanwhile, NBC’s streaming platform Peacock offers live viewing of the shows as well. For that, you would need the Premium Plus membership. The Premium Plus membership will cost you $9.99 per month with no ads. You can also sign up for a seven-day free trial if you’d like.
We aren’t sure just exactly how Musk’s appearance on Saturday Night Live will go. But there is no denying one thing. The Tesla CEO’s unpredictable personality is sure to be a good thing for the show.
