On Thursday, people and news outlets all across social media have been wishing the star actor a happy 52nd. The official LADbible Twitter account started things off with a touching post including pictures from several of McConaughey’s best roles.

“Happy Birthday to Matthew McConaughey. The coolest bloke in Hollywood is 52 today. What a renaissance (or McConaisaance) he had with Dallas Buyer’s Club, Wolfe of Wall Street, and True Detective. If only there was one word we could utter three times to describe him…”

“Happy birthday to Matthew @McConaughey,” one fan replied. “The most realistic & elegant performer of this generation. He’s one of those rare men in Cinema to elevate the essence of acting so immoderately, that it doesn’t count as acting anymore. Much love & respect for certainly the GOAT.”

“It’s Matthew McConaughey’s birthday and I didn’t get the day off? NOT all right, all right, all right,” another fan joked.

Matthew McConaughey Wins Oscar for Best Actor in 2014

One of our favorite Matthew McConaughey moments came back in 2014 when he gave his speech after winning an Oscar for Best Actor. He told an inspiring story about what keeps him grounded and it’s something all of us can relate to.

“Now, when I was 15 years old, I had a very important person in my life come to me and say, ‘Who’s your hero?’ And I said, ‘I don’t know I gotta think about that. Give me a couple of weeks.’ I come back two weeks later, this person comes back and says, ‘Who’s your hero?’ I said, ‘I thought about it, and you know who it is? It’s me in ten years. So, I turned 25 ten years later. That same person comes to me and goes, ‘So you’re your hero?’ And I was like, ‘Not even close.’ She goes, ‘Why?’ I said, ‘Because my hero is me at 35.”

“Every day, every week, every month, every year in my life, my hero is always 10 years away. I’m never gonna attain that and that’s okay with me. It keeps me with somebody to keep on chasing. So, to any of us, whatever those things are, whatever it is we look up to, whatever it is we look forward to, and whoever it is we are chasing, to that I say Amen. And to that, I say alright, alright, alright.”

“Happy Birthday GOAT @McConaughey
