‘Sons of Anarchy’ Actress Katey Sagal Hit By a Car in Los Angeles

Katey Sagal, star of “Sons of Anarchy” and more recently, “The Conners,” was struck by a car while crossing the street in Los Angeles.

According to TMZ, the accident was not a hit and run. The driver assisted Sagal, who was eventually taken by ambulance to the hospital. Fortunately, it doesn’t look like her injuries are too severe. It is unknown whether Sagal or the city will take any action against the driver.

Fans of “Sons of Anarchy” recognize Katey Sagal as Gemma Teller Morrow, Jax’s (Charlie Hunnam) mom. The 67-year old star has been acting since the early 1970s and has nearly 90 credits to her name. Most recently, she played the role of Louise on “The Conners.” Since 2018, Sagal has appeared in 25 episodes of the show.

She’s been busy over the past five years, playing recurring roles on shows like “Shameless,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” and “Grand Hotel.”

Of course, many fans won’t necessarily recognize her from “Futurama,” as it’s an animated show. But Katey Sagal voiced the character of Turanga Leela for all 14 years of the series.

If all of that wasn’t enough, she contributed to one of the biggest, most divisive television shows of all time. Over five years, from 2005 to 2010, Sagal appeared in episodes of “Lost” as Helen Norwood.

The ‘Sons of Anarchy’ Star Died in Brutal Fashion on the Show, But was Happy to Make it as Far as She Did

“Sons of Anarchy” fans remember the scene well. Katey Sagal’s Gemma was killed by way of a bullet in the back of her head from her own son. Still, she was pleased with her character’s lifespan on the show. She nearly survived until the final episode but didn’t quite make it.

“I was glad I made it to 12 (episodes). You never know with this show, I was fine with going when I did,” Sagal told Vulture in 2014.

The “Sons of Anarchy” star added that she knew the death was coming for a while. No one wants to be killed off of a hit show, but at least Sagal got a heads up.

“I knew I was going to come to my demise about three or four episodes into this season. I didn’t know exactly when it was going to happen or what the circumstances would be. But Kurt told Charlie and me at the same time that Gemma was going to die at the hands of her son,” she continued in the interview.

“Sons of Anarchy” creator Kurt Sutter was true to his word. Sure enough, Katey Sagal’s Gemma fell victim to a strangely merciful shooting at the hands of her son, Jax. She told Vulture it was the best way for her to go.
