‘Sons of Anarchy’ Star Kim Coates Remembers Late Actor William Lucking

When you film with the same cast and crew for weeks, months, or even years on end, you become a family. That’s why today is an especially difficult day for the cast and crew of FX’s critically-acclaimed “Sons of Anarchy.” William Lucking, unfortunately, passed away at the age of 80.

Lucking, of course, played the iconic biker Piney Winston across four seasons of the hit drama series. His castmates and family are remembering the late actor by taking to social media to share their tributes to him. Among the first of the cast to speak up is actor Kim Coates.

Kim Coates Shares News of William Lucking’s Death, Says He Will ‘Never Ever Forget’ His ‘Brother’

Kim Coates took to Twitter to share this tribute to the late William Lucking along with some words of remembrance. He included a screenshot of the headlines announcing the tragic death. See below:

The tribute reads as follows: “Never ever gonna forget this guy. Billy broke the mold of pretty much everything he did and accomplished The times we all had on set are legendary… just like Piney …” He then signs off with a touching last “Miss you brother. RIP.”

William Lucking’s Wife and Friends Post an Obituary for the Late and Great Actor

Kim Coates’ tribute comes after William Lucking’s wife, Sigrid Insull Lucking, and a friend, Stephen Macht, shared their own joint obituary for the star. The lengthy Facebook post reveals that he actually died back on October 18th in the comfort of his Las Vegas home. Part of the obituary speaks to how his character portrayals often differed from his actual personality in real life:

“Although William often played toughs and strongmen, in his actual life he was an elegant man with a brilliant intellect who loved to argue about politics and current affairs, discuss philosophy and physics and assert fine-pointed opinions about art and poetry,” his wife describes.

The post also details the timeline of his life from being born in Michigan in ’41 to moving to California in the early ’50s. Here, he eventually attended UCLA earning a degree in literature. He also took on the study of advanced theatrical arts at the Pasadena Playhouse.

He is remembered for a series of rugged roles including “Oklahoma Crude,” “The A-Team,” “Star Trek Deep Space 9,” and of course, “Sons of Anarchy.” Along with his wife of over two decades, he leaves behind two daughters and his grandchildren.
