‘Station 19’ Star Opens Up About Dramatic Exit from Show

The crew at Station 19 are without one of their original team members. That is because Dean Miller, played by Okieriete Onaodowan was killed. Due to an explosion caused by a gas leak, Miller suffered major injuries and is no longer on the show.

This was a planned exit. Onaodowan had spoken prior to this season about wanting out. The two sides agreed he would be in several Season 5 episodes to close out the story on his character. In the November 11th episode, Things We Lost in the Fire the emotions ran high as Miller was injured and then passed. Miller is one of the original characters on the show and his death means there are only four original members left.

Since the episode, Onaodowan has put out some very kind words about the show and the folks working on it. He has no hard feelings of course and was quick to thank show creator Shonda Rhimes after the episode. This was a big deal for Station 19 as it was part of a Grey’s Anatomy crossover.

Check out the tweet the actor sent out.

“.@shondarhimes Thank you for taking a chance on me, and giving me the opportunity. Thank you so much. You have changed my life,” the tweet said. Rhimes had posted a nice message about the Dean Miller actor.

The Station 19 actor, often referred to as “Oak,” was a Broadway star before bringing Dean Miller to life on screen. His big break was having a major role in Hamilton and now after his first major on-screen performance, he is planning on branching out to more projects. When Shonda Rhimes gives you praise like that, then you know you have done something right.

‘Station 19’ Star Departs Show with Kind Words

Of course, Oak had more to say about his exit from Station 19. You don’t spend that much time on a project and not leave with some feelings. He was quick to thank so many people who helped make his time on the show a success. Once again, Shonda Rhimes found herself in the mix.

“It’s been a pleasure being Dean. I have Shonda Rhimes, Stacy McKee, Krista Vernoff, Paris Barclay, and ABC to thank for allowing me to bring him to life. I am grateful I got to work with the most loving, kind, and dedicated crew in network TV. And most importantly, thanks to the fans for showing Dean so much love. I hope he has inspired you to change your world for the better. Be the change!”

So Dean Miller is gone and so too is Oak. However, Station 19 fans should be excited to see what the actor has next on his plate. He seems to be riding a rocket to stardom.
