Bindi Irwin, the daughter of the late wildlife expert and television personality, Steve Irwin, is now celebrating her very first Mother’s Day.
Bindi Irwin is married to Chandler Powell. The couple got married in late March 2020 in an intimate ceremony with no guests, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The wedding took place at the Australian Zoo gardens. Originally, the wedding was going to take place at the African Savannah amidst all the wildlife. However, the paparazzi flew over in a helicopter and scared all the wildlife away, forcing the couple to find a new venue.
Bindi Irwin’s First Mother’s Day
Since then, the couple has had one child together, Grace Warrior. She was born on March 25, 2021. Now, Bindi Irwin gets to celebrate her first Mother’s Day just a few months after giving birth to her daughter.
“Celebrating my first Mother’s Day. This day embodies the extraordinary gift of family. Thank you to ‘The Monkey Brush’ for bringing my family and Chandler’s together in these stunning works of art. I wish we could all be together but sometimes life has other plans. To my beautiful daughter, always know that you are loved beyond description,” she wrote on her Instagram.
A company had created a piece of art with the entire Irwin family, including Steve Irwin holding the baby in the very center. It’s a touching tribute to the legendary environmentalist and a way for the family to feel like he’s connected to his granddaughter.
Chandler Powell also posted a sweet photo and message to his wife on Mother’s Day. He wrote, “Happy Mother’s Day to my amazing wife … This is your first Mother’s Day yet it feels like you’ve been doing this forever. Grace and I are both lucky and grateful to have you in our lives. We love you so much.”
Family and Career Life
The couple had been excited for the baby even before she was born. In an interview with The Bump, Bindi Irwin talked about preparing for parenthood and being excited to share experiences with her daughter.
“I want to give our daughter the opportunity to experience as much as possible in the world to set her up for life. The greatest gift my parents ever gave me was their unconditional love and support. They encouraged me to travel my own path while always being there to lend support if I needed it,” she said.
Steve Irwin had always used the term “Wildlife Warrior,” which means those who speak out and protect those who cannot do so for themselves. The couple referred to their baby as their “Baby Wildlife Warrior,” hence the middle name “Warrior” once she was born.
Bindi Irwin chose to keep her last name after getting married because of her close connection with her father. “I’ve kept Bindi Irwin. I think that for me personally, after dad passed away, it was really important for me to feel close to him, and having his last name means so much to me,” she said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
As of right now, Bindi Irwin works alongside the rest of her family at the Australian Zoo that they own. She is on a television show with her mother and brother, Terri and Robert, called “Crikey! It’s the Irwins.” The family has continued Steve Irwin’s conservationist legacy. They donate 10% of their wages to the Wildlife Warriors, which is a charity founded by the family in 2002.
