Dan Dotson and his wife Laura are the heart of the TV series “Storage Wars.” Over the years, audiences have watched the couple through thick and thin. But there are still a few things that most viewers may not have realized about the couple.

For one, the “Storage Wars” stars have been together for a long time. They first met all the way back in 1996. And they’ve been together ever since as both husband and wife and business partners. Both Dan Dotson and Laura started their auctioneer business early in life.

In fact, Dan learned the skills of his trade from his grandfather. Dotson’s grandpa worked as a cattle and farm auctioneer. When Dan Dotson was just 11-years-old, he went with his grandfather to auctions, working during the summer months. Eventually, he dropped out of school at 16 to work auctions full-time in California. Over the years, he became well established in the business.

Meanwhile, Laura Dotson has her own background working as an auctioneer. She’s been in the business for more than a decade now. Laura is the brains behind the daily operations of their company American Auctioneers. Over the years, the company grew from 250 auctions to more than 2,500. She can also speak four different languages which helps.

‘Storage Wars’ Stars’ Love At First Sight

As for when Dan Dotson and Laura crossed paths, that was in 1996. And it happened where else but an auction. Laura wanted to see a bid on some restaurant equipment and met Dan instead. They quickly fell in love and married soon afterward. In an interview with the Huffington Post, Laura Dotson discussed their marriage.

“I found the right man because I am very high-energy,” Laura said. “When I saw him auctioneering all over the place, I thought, ‘I’m going to marry that man!’ That was it! We just looked at each other, said ‘Let’s get married, I’ll snatch you up,’ and the rest is history. Four months later, I was pregnant — the whole doggone thing! We work well together. He’s taught me how to auction and it’s the best thing that’s ever happened in my life.”

After marrying, they became business partners as well. And they’ve stayed at it for over 20 years, becoming successful reality stars on “Storage Wars” as well. The two continue to run America Auctioneers, which Dotson first founded in 1983. That venture has expanded over the past two decades under their supervision.

Dan Dotson and Laura have been together through thick and thin, and in sickness and in health. In 2014, Dotson had a health scare when he experienced a double aneurysm. Laura quickly called emergency services to assist Dan. Doctors only gave him a 20 percent chance at living but Dotson pulled through.
