‘Storage Wars’: Major Legal Update on Man Accused of Shooting Dan Dotson’s Son Last Year

Attorneys are making headway on the case of a Storage Wars star’s son. Last September, Garrett Dotson, Dan Dotson’s son, was shot in a drive-by while walking to his car. Police arrested Garrett Wilder for the shooting and charged him with two counts of aggravated assault, drive-by shooting, misconduct involving weapons, disorderly conduct with a weapon, and endangerment.

Wilder was in a car, and stopped to exchange words with Dotson. Then, he shot Dotson once in the abdomen, and left the scene. Dotson managed to call 911 for himself, but his condition went from stable to critical very swiftly. A helicopter airlifted him to a Las Vegas trauma center, where he finally stabilized. Dotson survived the attack, but went through a long and arduous recovery period.

Now, Wilder will stand trial in two weeks for the shooting.

Dan Dotson Reflects on His Worst Nightmare

Losing a child is every parent’s worst nightmare; that nightmare almost came true for Dan Dotson of Storage Wars fame, but, fortunately, his son survived his attack.

A year later, this September, Dotson took a moment to reflect on the situation he and his son were facing at the time. “One year ago tmrw our son Garrett was shot and we’re lucky we didn’t lose him,” Dotson wrote in a tweet featuring a beautiful sunset from his back porch.

When Wilder shot Dotson, the bullet lodged itself in an artery and fractured his spine. On the way to the trauma center, the doctor accompanying Dotson had to massage his heart and hold his hand over his wound to keep him from bleeding out in the helicopter. Four days later, he was off of the ventilator and out of the ICU. He fully recovered from his injuries, and his parents are back on Storage Wars.

Garrett is the only child of Dotson and his wife, Laura. In 2014, Garrett actually helped to save his dad’s life; when Dan Dotson collapsed from a double aneurysm, Garrett performed CPR until the paramedics arrived.

‘Storage Wars’ Investigates Jarrod Schulz for Domestic Violence

In other Storage Wars news, the A&E network was previously determining Jarrod Schulz’s future on the show after he was charged with domestic violence. He allegedly perpetrated violence against former fiancée, Brandi Passante. At this time, Schulz is still on Storage Wars, and it seems like the show is pitting them against each other as rivals.

The two split after an engagement in 2014 and planning their wedding on a Storage Wars spin-off. Until this year, Storage Wars hadn’t been on the air since 2018 with no plans to come back, and their split could be a contributing factor.

Passante hinted in March that the split was anything but amicable by placing a demon emoji over Schulz’s face in a promotional poster on Twitter.

“I wasn’t really allowed to have an identity for many, many years,” she told the Spirit Talk YouTube channel in February. “And so these last couple of years I’m kind of coming into my own and figuring out who I am.”
