On Tuesday (October 12), former Supernatural star Jensen Ackles took to his Instagram to announce he will be starring alongside Alec Baldwin in an upcoming western film Rust.

“Been out on the range for the last couple of weeks. Dream come true. Finally my bow legs are in their element. Excited to share more when I can.”

According to its IMDb, Rust follows a 13-year-old boy, who is left to fend for himself and his younger brother after the death of their parents in 1880’s Kansas. He goes on the run with his long-estranged grandfather when he’s sentenced to hang for the accidental killing of a local rancher.

Starring alongside Jensen Ackles and Alec Baldwin in the film are Travis Fimmel, Frances Fisher, Brady Noon, and Todd Bryant. Directing the film is Joel Souza. The film is currently in production and there has yet to be a premiere date announced.

Jensen Ackles to Direct An Episode of Jared Padalecki’s ‘Walker’

The news about Jensen Ackles starring in the upcoming western comes just a few weeks after Entertainment Weekly confirmed that Ackles will direct episode 7 of Walker’s second season. The TV show stars Ackles’ former Supernatural co-star Jared Padalecki.

While speaking about Jensen Ackles directing an episode of Walker, Padalecki told TVLine he can’t wait for Ackles to be on the show. “He’s doing ‘The Boys’ right now with [Eric] Kripke in Toronto, so he’s not even in the same country. But one of these days, he’ll have to come on and be my bow-legged friend. We’ll put him on horseback and give him a cowboy hat.”

Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki starred on Supernatural for 15 seasons, which has 327 episodes. Padalecki previously revealed to People that he loved the series. “I have a deep and abiding love for Sam Winchester. And I loved helping come to life for 15 years.”

Although he misses Sam Winchester, Padalecki stated to the New York Times that transitioning from Winchester to Cordell Walker didn’t take much. “I used that time selfishly to really try and develop Cordell Walker even further because I knew that getting the phone call to go back to Vancouver and finish Supernatural would come in a snap.”

In regards to speaking to his former Supernatural co-stars, Padalecki added,  I still talk to [Jensen Ackles], [Misha Collins], and the rest of the gang. I did Supernatural from age 22 to age 38, and I’ll never deny that my time and experiences on that show are certainly a part of who I am now. It’s still a part of me. I could film a scene as Sam Winchester right now because he lives in me, and I’m certain he always will.”
