While preparing for the filming of “SWAT,” star David Lim quickly learned that these officers go through a pretty rigorous training regimen.

Lim and the other cast members had to work day in and day out leading up to the first season. The star spoke with Tell-Tale TV back in 2017 to discuss what happened after he got cast as Victor Tan.

“What had happened is, they actually created this role for me. And so I was obviously over the moon,” Lim explained. “A week later I’m doing tactical training. And a few days after that I’m on set filming the pilot with (executive producer) Justin Lin.”

Tactical training involved working with SWAT officers from Los Angeles and San Diego as well as Navy SEALs. The showrunners wanted to make the team as “realistic” as possible, and working with the real men and women on the job certainly helped with that.

“We did a little bit of training before the pilot,” Lim continued. “But when we got picked up and we went to series, we really kind of clocked in and did a full week of tactical training. Just making sure we knew how to enter a building where there’s a threat, how to clear rooms, and how to move as a fluid unit.”

The “SWAT” cast certainly killed it in tactical training. Five seasons later, the team is as fluid as ever, both on-screen and off. Lim gave a shoutout during his interview to the law enforcement members who helped them with the training and offered advice.

“We worked really hard,” Lim said. “And we had some great, great SWAT officers who really guided us, and helped us get to where we are. And we’re still learning. Some of these guys have been doing it for twenty, thirty years, and we had a week to make it believable.”

How Other Police Procedural Helped ‘SWAT’ Star David Lim Fit Into New Role

Earlier this month, “SWAT” star David Lim sat down with Augustman Magazine to talk about his acting career so far. One of the bigger roles that helped him acclimate to his character Victor Tan on “SWAT” was actually another police procedural.

“‘Quantico’ gave me exposure to the industry and an opportunity to showcase what I could do with a challenging role,” Lim told the outlet. “It was my first major stint on primetime television. I learned how to be a professional and also gained some great experience. [I got] to work with some very talented actors. I feel like I did some great work on that show. And I think it set me up perfectly for SWAT.”

Aside from “Quantico,” Lim also made early appearances in “Criminal Minds,” “Supergirl,” and “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”
