There are fewer characters with more hair and memorability than Cousin Itt, and Felix Silla brought both of those to the role.
Rarely understood but always good for a laugh, The Addams Family character is just one of many reasons that the original show is revered today. That legacy suffers the unfortunate news that Felix Silla has passed away at the age of 84.
The news was first announced by actor Gil Gerard. Gerard is famously known as “Buck Rogers” on Buck Rogers in the 25th Century and worked with Silla on the show.
“Felix died just a few hours ago,” Gerard’s tweet starts. “And the only good I can draw from his passing is that he didn’t suffer any longer. I will miss him terribly, especially the great time we had at our panels. Just him telling me to ,” go ‘ f ‘ myself”.
While Silla worked with Gerard on Buck Rogers, he is most famous for his role as Cousin Itt. The character was famously not understood by his family members, but also was regarded as very intelligent.
Interestingly enough, per the show’s fan wiki, Cousin Itt was not a character originally drawn by its creator, Charles Addams. Instead, he was created by a producer for The Addams Family.
However, Felix Silla’s career goes far beyond Cousin Itt.
Besides The Addams Family, Felix Silla Had Illustrious Career
Silla was born on January 11, 1937 in Roccacasale, Italy. Growing to be just 70 pounds and four-feet tall, he first got his start in entertainment in the circus. He worked for both Barnum & Bailey as well as the Ringling Bros.’ circuses.
His career gained momentum as he found a niche of playing roles without a face or voice. Besides Cousin Itt, he went on to become Twiki the robot in Buck Rogers, as well as an Ewok in Star Wars Episode VI.
Beyond that, he also appeared in the famous Bonanza episode, “Hoss and the Leprechauns.” This is not to mention his noteworthy appearances on classic shows like Petticoat Junction, Dukes of Hazzard, Battlestar Galactica and Bewitched.
