It’s only natural that actors who appear on pretty much any television show will have episodes they prefer more than others. This was the case for actor Don Knotts during his tenure as Deputy Barney Fife on “The Andy Griffith Show.”

NPR shared details of previous interviews with Knotts during February 2006. According to IMDb.com, Don Knotts died on Feb. 24, 2006. He was 81 years old at the time of his death. He was born on July 21, 1924, in Morgantown, West Virginia.

Before he died, this legendary comedic actor said there were two episodes of the wildly popular “The Andy Griffith Show” that stood out to him. NPR shared details about these episodes during its report about Don Knotts’ death in 2006.

So, according to NPR, with episodes of “The Andy Griffith Show” did Don Knotts hold in the highest esteem?

Well, there were two. One of the Barney Fife actor’s favorite episodes of “The Andy Griffith Show” was titled “The Pickle Story.” According to NPR, the plot of this episode includes pickles made by Aunt Bea that “no one can eat.”

The other episode of the famous sitcom that Don Knotts preferred above the dozens of others was titled “Barney and the Choir,” according to the NPR story.

Knotts also had the following to say about his abilities as a performer during his interview with NPR.

“I can’t sing,” Knotts said. “It makes me sad that I can’t sing or dance well enough to be in a musical, but I’m just not talented in that way. It’s one of my weaknesses.”

The plot of the episode is as follows: “No one will admit to Aunt Bee’s homemade pickles being the worst they’ve ever tasted. Andy switches them with store-bought ones to avoid eating hers, but her decision to enter them in the county fair presents a dilemma.”

NPR also reported that Don Knotts also preferred another episode of “The Andy Griffith Show.” This episode was titled “Barney and the Choir.” According to IMDb.com, this was the 20th episode of the second season. And, the synopsis of this episode is: “The choir director invites Barney to join the choir before he realizes Barney can’t sing.”

Interestingly, Don Knotts also talked to NPR before his death about being a singer.

“I can’t sing,’ Knott reportedly said. “It makes me sad that I can’t sing or dance well enough to be in a musical, but I’m just not talented in that way. It’s one of my weaknesses.”
