‘The Brady Bunch’: Greg Actor Barry Williams Revealed His Favorite Moment from the Show

The Brady Bunch has been hailed as being one of the most iconic shows on television. Even if you haven’t seen every episode of the hit series, you know at least a little about it.

During the show’s original run from 1969 until 1974, fans saw the Brady Bunch as they encountered some exciting situations.

In some episodes, the Brady clan had the opportunity to meet major stars, singers, or athletes during the series. Other times, the iconic family were seen as they traveled to a variety of places, having unique adventures along the way.

Whatever it was, each week, the Brady Bunch always seemed to have something interesting going on!

Of all the experiences the Brady’s had on the show’s five-season run, there is one moment in particular that stands out for one of the actors on the show.

“When we went to Hawaii [for the trilogy episode “Hawaii Bound”],” says former Brady Bunch star Barry Williams of his favorite moment on the show over the years.

‘Brady Bunch’ Star Shows Off Some Skills During Iconic Three-Part Episode

Williams, who portrayed the oldest Brady Bunch, son, Greg Brady, notes that what he loved about these particular Brady Bunch episodes was the fact that he had the opportunity to show off his surfing skills while filming the three-part storyline.

The longtime surfer says that surfing has always been something he loved. So, to be able to show off these skills as Greg Brady was an exciting idea to Williams.

“The only thing I’ve been longer than a Brady is a surfer,” the star explains.

Williams does add, however, that his surfing scenes almost didn’t make it into the Brady Bunch Hawaii episodes.

Even though he had been surfing for a while, Williams says he did have to convince the show-runners to let him do his own surfing in the episode.

And, the actor adds, the pressure was on when he was finally able to do it.

“I had to talk them into letting me do my own surfing,” Williams explains.

“For the two days we filmed that [episode], the beach was rented by our company from the state,” he continues. “So everyone that was out there surfing with me was a paid extra.”

This, the actor says, gave him the perfect opportunity to seek out the perfect waves while in the water.

Since the goal of the scene was to portray Greg Brady on the board, having the water filled with actors “gave me a lot of juice and priority on the waves,” Williams notes.

For Barry Williams, this meant an unforgettable experience for the then-teenage actor.

“I was like, “Hey, guys, I’ll grab this one, the cameras are rolling,” the actor remembers. “That was an extraordinary teenage experience which has become a lifetime memory.”
