‘The Brady Bunch’: Jamie Foxx Once Sang Show’s Theme in 2002 Comedy Special

Ear worm alert. You’ll never listen to The Brady Bunch theme again without thinking of Jamie Foxx.

Foxx reimagined the iconic Brady Bunch opener. Back in 2002, he included his version of the song in his comedy act. He crooned it as a jazzy love song as he played the piano. He then smoothly mimicked Babyface and added some hip hop lines to the end of it.

The Twitter account “KevOnStage” gave Foxx’s version of The Brady Bunch theme new life last month when he posted a video of it.

He wrote:” This (is) one of my favorite jokes for a couple reasons. 1. You learn something about Jamie. 2. Hardly any other comics can do this. 3. It’s just downright hilarious.”

Like The Brady Bunch, Foxx sports his own classic TV background. The one-time high school quarterback changed his last name to Foxx in honor of Redd Foxx of Sanford and Son fame. Foxx’s first big role was on the 1990s-era ground-breaking sketch comedy In Living Color. He had his own show from 1996-2001.

Foxx next moved to the movies. He won an Academy Award in 2005 for playing singer Ray Charles in the movie Ray. That same year, he was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in Collateral. Foxx also recorded albums. He’s known most for Blame It, his single from 2008. He has another project in the works. In March, Variety reported that Foxx will play boxer Mike Tyson in a limited series.

So getting the Jamie Foxx treatment should be quite the honor for The Brady Bunch.

Did You Hear the News About the Reimagined Brady Bunch Episode? There Will Be Drag Queens

Meanwhile, there was some cool Brady Bunch news, Wednesday. Most of the cast is getting together to recreate an iconic episode. Except this episode will be campy and include famous drag queens.

Paramount + will show Dragging the Classics: The Brady Bunch, June 30. Five of the Brady Bunch brothers and sisters will be in on it. Favorites from RuPaul’s Drag Race also will be in the cast. That means RuPaul will work alongside The Brady Bunch cast. He’s 60, so he’s the same age as Bobby and Cindy Brady. The Brady Bunch returnees are Susan Olsen, Eve Plumb, Michael Lookinland, Christopher Knight and Barry Williams. The only one missing is Maureen McCormick, who played oldest daughter, Marcia.

The episode will be a new take on Will the Real Jan Brady Please Stand Up? That Brady Bunch episode originally ran Jan. 15, 1971. It’s centered on middle sister Jan, who is tired of being sandwiched between Marcia and Cindy. It’s difficult to ditch all the blondeness. So, Jan buys a curly, short, brunette wig to a party hosted by Lucy Winters. Here’s a fun fact. Pamelyn Ferdin played Lucy. She also voiced Lucy on the Charlie Brown specials.

There are other tweaks to this classic Brady Bunch episode. For one, Eve Plumb isn’t playing Jan. Instead, she’s Lucy. Williams portrays dad, Mike Brady. As for RuPaul, he’s the wig attendant.

Stay tuned!
