Mike Lookinland, the actor who played Bobby on The Brady Bunch, once revealed advice Florence Henderson gave him that made a lasting impact.

Florence Henderson wasn’t just a role model portraying stepmother Carol Brady on the show. Mike Lookinland says that he looked up to his TV mother on and off set.

In a 2016 interview with Daily News, Lookinland opened up about Florence Henderson’s lasting impact. Henderson died in November of 2016 at the age of 82. Mike Lookinland gave the interview immediately after her death.

“I woke up today to the sad news,” stated Lookinland. “I just got to my mother’s cabin in the woods in southern Utah, and I’m still shocked and amazed.”

Although Lookinland is 60-years-old now, he was only eight when he first stepped on The Brady Bunch set.

When looking back on Henderson’s demeanor, Lookinland only had positive things to say.

“She was the kind of person that is just great to be around. Just to be in the same room with her was a pleasure. You can’t say that about most people. She was just 100% fun and professional.”

Mike Lookinland Shares the Lasting Advice Henderson Gave Him

Mike Lookinland revealed one piece of advice that Florence harped on all the Brady Bunch children. He said that even to this day, he always tried to live by it.

“She said, very specifically, ‘You kids, be good to your fans, love your fans,'” he said. “She said it was part of the deal to interact with and be kind to and appreciate and love your fans. I took that to heart and tried to do that.”

Lookinland also got emotional as he recalls how close his birth mother was to his TV mother. He noted that the two were the same age.

“My mom and Florence were great friends. They were together a lot,” Mike Lookinland said. “It makes you think you should spend more time with the people you love because they might not be here tomorrow.”

Florence Henderson and Mike Lookinland worked together on The Brady Bunch from September of 1969 until the end of the series in March of 1974.

Florence Henderson isn’t the only Brady Bunch member to have since passed on. Robert Reed, who played father Mike Brady, died in 1992. Housekeeper character Alice Nelson, played by Ann B. Davis, also, unfortunately, died in 2014.
