This “The Brady Bunch” star once went on a date with comedian Steve Martin. And the results ended up being a very awkward occasion.
Maureen McCormick has regrets about how her date with the actor ended up. Martin was one of the biggest in the 1980s and 90s, appearing in “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles” as well as “Father of the Bride.” He became known for his sarcastic, every-man kind of humor. Martin could be zany at times as his “Little Shop of Horrors” character can attest. But he often played the disgruntled straight man to even wackier characters.
Martin got McCormick’s number from a mutual friend Chevy Chase. And he called up “The Brady Bunch” star to see if she wanted to go on a date. McCormick remembers Martin as being very romantic. But she admits she messed things up.
“I remember him being a very good kisser,” McCormick wrote, according to CBS. “But I was insecure and either high or spaced-out (most likely both), and I didn’t laugh at his jokes.
Maureen McCormick Never Spoke to Steve Martin Again
Not every date leads to marriage and true love. And McCormick’s and Martin’s ended up just being a hilariously bad story of a dating fail. For one, McCormick figured that she offended Martin on the date. After all, a comedian like him made his living off the jokes he told. And McCormick didn’t end up laughing at a single one of his lines.
Additionally, McCormick revealed that she wasn’t a great conversationalist during the date. She confessed that she didn’t hold up her end of the conversation. Her behavior ended up making the occasion awkward for the both of them, she wrote. But more likely, the two just didn’t have a connection. Not everyone does, and it’s neither party’s fault.
But McCormick confessed that she regretted she never got a call back from Martin.
“Though Steve was too polite and confident of his talent to say anything, I’m sure my inability to carry on a normal conversation or respond intelligently put him off,” she wrote. “We never spoke again after that date. I’ve always regretted my behavior because he impressed me as an extraordinary guy. I would’ve enjoyed a second date.”
In McCormick’s love life, she also ended up going on a date with her co-star Barry Williams. She also briefly went on a date with Michael Jackson as well.
