Good news for fans of “The Conners” as ABC on Friday green-lighted a fourth season for the network’s top-rated situation comedy.

Stars John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson, and Michael Fishman all signed new one-year contracts recently, according to an article from The Hollywood Reporter. The show is a spinoff from “Roseanne.”

It’s not actually a true spin-off since “The Conners” was created after original lead star Roseanne Barr was fired. Goodman and the rest of that cast retained their characters.

‘The Conners’ Third-Season Finale Didn’t Pull In Great Numbers

When the show recently returned on Wednesday, May 12, to ABC after taking a three-week hiatus, ratings were not good.

This was the “go-home” episode for its third season and featured Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers as a host of “Jeopardy!”. Jackie, Metcalf’s character, found herself on the popular game show and Rodgers, in a sense, reprised his real-life guest-hosting stint one more time.

Also, veteran actors Candice Bergen, Brian Austin Green, and Katey Sagal showed up. DJ, Fishman’s character, saw his wife Geena come home after being deployed. With all that traffic going on, though, “The Conners” still just pulled in close to 2.786 million viewers.

But “The Conners” will return for a fourth season and so will Gilbert. Now she’s been busy beyond her time on “Roseanne” her current show, too.

Sara Gilbert Has A Pretty Famous Actor As Her Sister

Sara Gilbert created the CBS talk-show “The Talk” which has been in headlines recently due to the firing of former cohost Sharon Osbourne.

She’s also related to Melissa Gilbert. Say what? Yep, Sara is Melissa’s sister. Paul Gilbert and his wife, Barbara, adopted Melissa as an infant. For classic TV fans, you all know Melissa from her time on “Little House on the Prairie” as Laura Ingalls. One other classic TV tidbit: Barbara’s father was Harry Crane, who helped create “The Honeymooners” sketch for comedian Jackie Gleason.

So these sisters have found themselves in the midst of show business success. “The Talk” has been on for 11 seasons. Sara Gilbert was one of the show’s original hosts, too, but no longer fills that role.

Melissa Gilbert played Laura for nine seasons on the NBC family drama that also starred Michael Landon. She’s also a past president of the Screen Actors Guild, serving in that role between 2001-05.

It’s safe to say both Gilbert sisters found success on the small screen. Their work is beloved by millions who watch reruns of their shows. Of course, that also includes current viewers of “The Conners” in that mix as well.
