It looks like “The Conners” is going to be around for yet another season as all cast members have signed new deals for the ABC sitcom.
“The Conners” is a spinoff from “Roseanne” and currently holds the mantle as ABC’s most-watched comedy show.
John Goodman, Sarah Gilbert, Laurie Metcalf, and Lecy Goranson have all signed new contracts. You might be asking, “Well, what’s the holdup?”
It’s a rather tricky reason, according to an article from ScreenRant.
‘The Conners’ Pretty Much Set To Do 20 Episodes For New Season
Because “The Conners” is a spinoff of a revived “Roseanne,” the show has to be treated differently. The show, if picked up by ABC, would do 20 episodes for the fourth season. All cast members have to sign new one-season contracts as the show goes along. This point has reportedly kept ABC from giving the green light to another season.
Thanks to the show being so popular with viewers, ABC is expected to approve another season of the Conner clan on TV.
Obviously, “The Conners” is the family originally tied to a show with star Roseanne Barr. But she lost her job due to making racist comments on social media. That left the rest of the cast in a lurch. They’ve been able to turn around a difficult situation and provide solid programming while tackling real-life issues.
Some episodes have dealt with Becky (Goranson) relapsing with alcohol as well as her late husband on the show. Actor Glenn Quinn played that role on “Roseanne,” but he died in 2002.
Fishman, Who Plays D.J. Conner, Deals With Real-Life Son’s Death
Last year was a tough one for a very personal reason for actor Michael Fishman. Fishman played D.J. Conner on “Roseanne” and continues to do so as part of “The Conners” cast.
He went on the “Tamron Hall Show” and talked about losing his youngest son, Larry.
Fishman, 39, said he died from a drug overdose in June 2020. Fishman already adopted Larry’s older sister, Camille. Fishman said he was in the process of adopting Larry, too.
“I feel like I came to Larry maybe later than I wish I could,” Fishman said to CNN. “I think for parents, you know, you wish you had more time.”
Fishman said his son “tried drugs that turned out to be bad drugs that multiple people had a very serious reaction.”
He has three children, two of them with ex-wife Jennifer Briner.
