Actress Katey Sagal just booked a major new movie role with Blumhouse Television for a new film.
In the upcoming film titled, Tattered Hearts, Sagal will play a former country music star who has gone into hiding as a recluse. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie is set to premiere sometime in 2022 on Epix.
Fans know Katey Sagal best for her on-screen roles, such as when she played Leela on “Futurama” and Gemma Teller Morrow on “Sons of Anarchy,” among many other parts. She’s also well-versed in the country music genre. She has had a long-winded career in the music industry as a backup vocalist, singer-songwriter, and soundtrack artist.
Now, she’ll utilize both her acting skills and country music talent in her new movie, Tattered Hearts. The film is described as a thriller that sees new country music stars go against their elder. The movie follows an up-and-coming country music group that looks up to Sagal’s character, Harper Dutch. They end up locating Harper in her secluded mansion and find out that she’s friendly and welcoming to the duo.
However, it goes awry quickly when the younger performers soon realize that Harper’s lifestyle is unraveling. They later have to decide how far they’ll really go for their career in country music.
Katey Sagal: What You Didn’t Know About Her Musical Career
While Sagal may be best-known for on-camera work, but her music resume is nothing short of exceptional. During her music career, she sang backup vocals for the likes of Bob Dylan, Etta James, and Tanya Tucker early in her career. She later joined Bette Midler’s backup group too.
Additionally, she then provided her vocals for Gene Simmons’ solo album and Olivia Newton-John’s single “Soul Kiss.” She also recorded the theme song for the movie Loose Cannons in 1990.
She released two albums: Well… in 1994 and Room in 2004. Both of the albums are adult contemporary music. During her time on “Sons of Anarchy,” she also helped work on the show’s soundtrack.
However, Sagal’s contributions are more widely known on screen. She played Peggy Bundy on “Married… With Children” and Cate Hennessy on “8 Simple Rules.”
Her most recent project, “Rebel,” was canceled after one season. However, it could possibly come back to airwaves. Amazon Studios is reportedly looking into the show as a potential IMDbTV original series.
If it gets to come back, Sagal will surely be busy since Tattered Hearts is due out soon. The movie was backed by Blumhouse. The company also signed on to produce several original films for Epix.
A House on the Bayou, the first movie to come out, will premiere this December. An exact premiere date or production details have for Tattered Hearts has not yet been announced.
