What do “The Dukes of Hazzard” and “The Waltons” have in common?

Who doesn’t love a good crossover? When one iconic show somehow ties into another iconic show, television just gets that much better. So, we are loving this crossover moment between “The Dukes of Hazzard” and “The Waltons.” Now, you may be asking, “How could the two shows possibly be related?” After all, the Dukes and the Waltons couldn’t get much different when it comes to lifestyles. Nevertheless, the two shows are connected in a couple of different and fun ways.

During an episode of her video series, “Behind-the-Scenes With Judy Norton” Norton, who played Mary Ellen on “The Waltons” shared her connection to “The Dukes of Hazzard.” First, she said that the two shows shared a backlot at Warner Brothers Studio. Many of the Dukes’ sets were housed right next door to the Waltons’ house. In fact, Norton even said that the actors would pull a hilarious prank on “The Waltons” actors.

“‘The Dukes of Hazzard‘ was quite frequently filming on the backlot and their car The General Lee would be running around. And for fun, sometimes they would drive through the front yard of the Waltons,” said Norton with a laugh.

Judy Norton Worked With Actor James Best on ‘The Felony Squad’

But that’s not all she revealed. Norton said that she and James Best, who played Sheriff Rosco. P. Coltrane on “The Dukes of Hazzard” acted together on another show called “The Felony Squad. In fact, he played her father on the show. “The Felony Squad” was about a twenty-year veteran Detective Sergeant who’s partnered with a rookie in a large Western city.

“James Best had actually played my father in a very early TV episode that I did ‘The Felony Squad.’ So it was fun to cross paths with them too,” said Norton.

George Clooney Used To Visit ‘The Waltons’ Set

In the same video, Judy Norton also revealed that Hollywood heartthrob George Clooney used to visit “The Waltons” set. At the time he was working on the popular hospital drama, “ER.” The show was filming at the same studio as “The Waltons, Warner Brothers Studio. So, when he wasn’t filming scenes, Clooney would occasionally drop by the show and hang out with “The Waltons” cast.

“George Clooney came by and we were talking with him in the makeup trailer on the lot. Because Mary [McDonough] knew him and he was acting in ‘ER’ at the time on the same lot. So it was fun to meet him. This was before he became the megastar that he is now,” said Norton. “But he was still a big deal even then. and awfully handsome so it was fun to hang out and even just say hello and hang out with him for a few minutes.”
