‘The Expendables 4’ Crew Experienced Multiple On-Set Injuries

The “Rust” tragedy has caused quite the stir when it comes to talking about set safety. George Clooney is among the stars speaking up and recently chimed in on the conversation himself. He paid his respects to the cast/crew and opened up about how he operates on his own sets. At the end of the day, this is not an isolated incident, either. A failed stunt on “America’s Got Talent” is still being investigated. And it’s also been revealed that the cast and crew of the upcoming “The Expendables 4” have allegedly experienced multiple injuries on set.

Apparently, the franchise has a history of injuries and accidents. Back in 2011 while shooting for the second installation, a life was tragically lost during a stunt gone wrong. So, what’s going on with their set? Let’s break down what’s happened.

Is ‘The Expendables 4’ A Cursed Set?

Just to recap, the new flick is set to feature many of the project’s original faces. There’s Sylvester Stallone (duh), Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, and Jason Statham. That being said, don’t expect Bruce Willis to stop by “The Expendables 4” any time soon. Maybe don’t hold your breath for any future “Expendables” endeavor for that matter. The bad blood there seems thick, which is a real shame. So, what’s up with the set? Is it cursed?

Before the production of the Millennium Films-produced project even began, they found trouble in Greece. First, a painter fell from a gnarly height and needed to seek treatment at a hospital. (The painter recovered since). Another injury then involved a stuntman who accidentally backed up a slow-moving vehicle over a camera assistant’s foot. (They also recovered).

Millennium responded to the injuries saying that “The production of ‘Expendables 4’ is taking every precaution to ensure the safety of all crew.”

The thing is, the franchise has also seen much worse in the past.

A Dark Past

While filming “The Expendables 2,” Kun Liu tragically died during a stunt gone wrong. He was on an inflatable boat shooting a scene with a staged explosion when he and one other person sustained critical injuries.

The main cast has also openly discussed injuries from the set. Specifically talking about the filming of “The Expendables 3,” Stallone got more than just some bumps and bruises. Apparently, he actually broke his neck and spine. He also sustained shoulder dislocations and a pretty bad back injury from a fall to boot.

Of course, the tough guy just chalks it up to a “work hard, play hard” mentality that comes with the territory of shooting an action flick. During a past promotional tour, he casually shrugged it off saying they just “had to put some metal in there.”
