Come on down – to celebrate! The beloved game show “The Price Is Right” is turning 50 years old in 2021. And a very special event is being planned to commemorate the milestone.
According to PopCulture, this special event is a primetime special that will air next month. The event will air for two hours on CBS beginning at 9 p.m. (ET) on Thursday, Sept. 30. A tribute to the show’s beloved host, Bob Barker, will be included in the special event. Also, the special will showcase memorable winners and show fans outtakes that have not hit the small screen before.
Unsurprisingly, the 97-year-old Barker had something to say about the 50th-anniversary celebration for “The Price Is Right.” Also, according to IMDb, Barker hosted 6,726 episodes of “The Price Is Right” during his memorable career.
“First, I want to say congratulations and thank you to all the wonderful people responsible, past and present, on the 50th season of ‘The Price is Right.’ The show has the most enthusiastic and fun audience that one could ever ask for. They truly were and are the heart and soul of the show. I had the pleasure of working with a dedicated and talented cast and crew for 35 great years,” Barker shared via a message from the CBS network.
If you ever watched an episode of “The Price Is Right,” you will also remember Barker’s unique signoff. With this signoff, he encouraged viewers to take care of the domesticated animals in the world.
“Particularly close to my heart was the ability our vast popularity gave me to remind our entire audience daily about the importance of spaying and neutering your pets,” Barker also said.
Comedian Drew Carey Took Over as Host of ‘The Price Is Right’ After Bob Barker Retired
“It was an incredibly memorable ride! Once again, congratulations to ‘The Price Is Right’ on 50 historic years!! Here’s to 50 more!!” Barker also said.
If you’re more than 10 years old or so, and you watched “The Price Is Right,” the man you first watched host the famous daytime game show was Bob Barker. However, after he retired from the show a new person needed to stand behind the microphone and interact with the contestants.
So in 2007, the powers that be behind “The Price Is Right” selected comedian Drew Carey as the man who would take over the show’s hosting duties from Barker. Unsurprisingly, Carey also had something to say about the opportunity to be part of the famous show.
“Hosting ‘The Price Is Right’ has been a dream job for me. And I can’t even call it a job with a straight face because I get such joy out of it,” Carey shared in a personal statement.
The 50th season of the beloved game show will air on Sept. 13 on CBS at 11 a.m. (ET).
