Recently, “The Talk” revealed that Akbar Gbajabiamila will be the brand new permanent host on the talk show. He will start his job on September 13, which is the air date of season 12.

Gbajabiamila will join other hosts Sheryl Underwood, Amanda Kloots, and Jerry O’Connell. He is replacing newly departed host Elaine Welteroth, who left after one season on the program. Carrie Ann Inaba and Sharon Osbourne are also recent departures on “The Talk.”

In the meantime, Gbajabiamila is gearing up for success as a host on the show. He is familiar with hosting, given the fact that he hosts “American Ninja Warrior.” He was also in the NFL for five years playing for teams like the San Diego Chargers, the Miami Dolphins, and the Oakland Raiders.

Akbar Gbajabiamila Seeks Advice from Michael Strahan

He recently had an interview with People that said his role model for this new jump in his career is Michael Strahan. He is most known for his hosting job over on “Good Morning America.” Gbajabiamila said that he’s looking to Strahan for help because he is “the blueprint for athletes transitioning into media.”

Gbajabiamila decided to reach out to Strahan to see if he could shadow him while he’s working on GMA.

“I just cold-called and said, ‘Hey, you know, I love what you’re doing. I’m excited about what you’re doing. Can I shadow you?’ I remember meeting him at his — I don’t know what they call that in New York — one of those high-rise, fancy-schmancy condos. … Whatever it is, it was pretty fancy. I’d never seen anything like it. I met him early in the morning and we went from what he was doing with Kelly and Michael, and he then went from there to GMA. He allowed me to shadow him through the whole process,” Gbajabiamila said.

The new “The Talk” host was very appreciative of his valuable time with Strahan. In addition to his time as an athlete, Strahan is now a recognizable face in the world of TV hosting. He also hosts “Kelly and Michael.” Gbajabiamila said that he still goes out to visit him in New York occasionally and called Strahan an “inspirational” person.

Gbajabiamila is doing a lot of prep work for his new role. He told People that he is “working on being more introspective.” He wants to be more transparent to the people watching at home and also wants to provide positive male perspectives.

Getting Excited for Job on ‘The Talk’

Ahead of the new season of “The Talk,” the biggest thing Akbar Gbajabiamila is doing is getting excited. He shared the news of his new job on Twitter yesterday.

“Praise God for this exciting news. It is an absolute honor to be joining @TheTalkCBS as a co-host! I am so excited for this new generation of such a hallmark establishment in daytime television. To be a part of this diverse group, is truly a dream & a new statement for this show,” he wrote.

He also shared an adorable and hilarious video of his reaction alongside his kids. The video starts with him freaking out after seeing an article about his new job online. He then shares the news excitedly with his kids as they jump on the kitchen table and run to hug him.
