After a year filled with drama, complications, and people stepping away from their roles on the popular talk show, “The Talk,” a new host is joining the ranks.
Recently, Jerry O’Connell was announced as the newest host on the program. He isn’t a stranger to “The Talk.” O’Connell has often been a guest-host on the CBS program in recent months.
Jerry O’Connell and Co-Stars
He is taking over for Sharon Osbourne as a permanent host. She exited the program earlier this year after a racially charged controversy took place on the daytime talk show.
O’Connell recently posted a photo on Instagram alongside his future co-host, Elaine Welteroth. He stated that he was “really getting close with whole cast [‘The Talk’} cast.”
It doesn’t appear to be Welteroth’s favorite way to meet her new co-host. She is laugh-cringing as O’Connell clips his toenails on “The Talk” studio stage.
She made this clear when she commented on the photo, “TOE NAIL TERRORISM!!!” Welteroth didn’t seem too offended, however, since the journalist posted the photo on her Instagram story as well.
O’Connell is stepping in as the permanent host only three months after Osbourne’s departure. CBS confirmed this news on Wednesday. Osbourne had an on-air heated dispute with Sheryl Underwood. Osbourne supported Piers Morgan and his controversial comments related to Meghan Markle.
In an HBO episode of “Real Time with Bill Maher,” Osbourne spoke about everything that happened. She said she was “angry” and “hurt.” CBS conducted an internal review and found her comments and behavior unacceptable.
Excitement Over ‘The Talk’ Host Announcement
Many “The Talk” viewers are ecstatic over the announcement of O’Connell as a full-time host. Welteroth took to social media to share the news of his casting. She wrote, “Congrats to a real one!!! … We are so lucky to have your unmatched energy, your charm, and your squirmy, gyrating, zaddy bawdy in that chair. You make us laugh every day! Looking forward to going on this ride with you by our side.”
He is making history with his “The Talk” job. He is the first full-time male co-host on the program. O’Connell will be on the show the rest of the week and then will take a break until the end of the month. From then on, he will be on the show all the time during season 12.
Jerry O’Connell is an actor known for his roles in “Sliders,” “My Secret Identity,” “Stand by Me,” “Joe’s Apartment,” “Jerry Maguire,” “Scream 2,” “Kangaroo Jack,” and “Crossing Jordan.” In addition to his “The Talk” gig, he is the voice of Commander Jack Ransom on the animated series “Star Trek: Lower Decks.”
