‘The Voice’: Blake Shelton Jokingly Blames Kelly Clarkson for Getting Adam Levine Fired

NBC’s “The Voice” is currently in full swing. The judges have been changing a lot over the last few years. This season the judges are Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and Nick Jonas.

As of now, the show just wrapped up the Blind Auditions portion of the competition. This is where contestants sing to the four judges while their backs are turned. The judges then, by only hearing their voice, decide whether they would want that person on their team.

In many ways, the Blind Auditions are a trademark and an overall favorite part of the competition. Not only does it allow viewers to watch and be introduced to new talent, but the judges bickering and banter make for an entertaining experience.

On March 22, the show wrapped up the Blind Auditions. Blake Shelton certainly made sure he got the contestants he wanted and closed out his team in typical Shelton-style.

Blake Shelton Jokes with Kelly Clarkson

On Monday’s episode, Blake Shelton jokingly threw Kelly Clarkson under the bus to get a talented musician on his team.

Shelton and Clarkson were fighting over 21-year-old Keegan Ferrell who gave a stellar rendition of Maroon 5’s “She Will Be Loved.”

Shelton used his adorable and internet-famous love-hate relationship with the band’s frontman, Adam Levine, to pull ahead. Adam Levine was on “The Voice” up until he announced he was leaving in 2019.

“First of all, I happen to be buddies with the guy who wrote and sang that song, and I want you to look, for just a second, at this coaching panel. Take note at who’s missing, and who’s in that chair. Now I’m not saying that Kelly Clarkson got Adam fired, but … he’s gone, and she’s sitting there, OK,” Shelton joked on the show.

While Adam Levine left the show on his own free-will, Shelton hoped his joke would lead Ferrell to his team. The other judges also chimed in on the situation. John Legend said that she does have her own show, “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” on the same network after all.

Shelton then went on to say that Clarkson was Levine’s “arch-nemesis” while Clarkson exclaims, “We toured together!”

It’s unclear if the fun argument did anything to actually sway the contestant. However, he did end up going with Team Blake and therefore walked away with a very non-Blake-looking bobblehead.

Country music fans will recognize a familiar face in the upcoming episodes of “The Voice.”

Kelsea Ballerini, known for “Hole in the Bottle,” “Peter Pan,” and “I Hate Love Songs,” is taking over for Team Kelly during the Battle Rounds of the show, according to Entertainment Tonight.

Kelly Clarkson got sick and needed a celebrity substitute briefly. Ballerini said in a promo to “Just pretend I’m Kelly.” She is also proving she can battle with Blake. She told him, “Hey, have I ever told you that you look like my dad?”

Ballerini was on the show in the past. She was the fifth coach for season 15’s “Comeback Stage” segment and was also a mentor for Kelly Clarkson’s team in season 16.

According to Good Housekeeping, there is a bit of a schedule change happening for the next few weeks. “The Voice” usually is on both Monday and Tuesday. However, it will be on only Mondays for a few weeks instead.

Shows like “This Is Us,” “Young Rock,” and “Kenan” are currently in that 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. block.
