The Voice is celebrating its 500th episode with a cake. The show, which has been on the air for ten years, rang it in with cake and a special opener. The cake is a beautiful replica of the four judges chairs which have been an unchanging staple of The Voice since the beginning, even though the judges have rotated.
The only judge whose been on since the start is Blake Shelton, who had a hilarious segment tonight where he ate a whole sheet of cake by himself, insisting it was a single serving until the other judges left him to it.
You can catch the clip from tonight’s episode, which includes the cake below.
“Guess what y’all?! It’s the 500th episode of @nbcthevoice tonight!! I’m gonna have my cake and eat it too #TheVoice,” Shelton wrote in the post.
The opener also mentions that they’ve become the most-watched television show of the decade on a single network.
Tonight’s Acts on ‘The Voice’ Earned one Lucky Contestant a Steal
A lot of tonight’s acts showed viewers just why the show has gotten so popular. There were definitely a few nail-biters tonight, and it looks like the coaches had moments where they even surprised themselves with who they picked.
Samuel Harness shocked coaches with his epic performance of Bruises, which he explained he personally connected with in rehearsal with mega mentor Ed Sheeran. And boy, did it show. He managed to beat previous top contender BrittanyBree, who did well as well.
Hailey Mia beat the Cunningham sisters with a performance that would have been impressive for any human let alone a 13-year-old. In a fantastic moment, Ed Sheeran showed all three of the young performers a clip of him trying to sing when he was in his early teens. Let’s just say…. the girls are much farther along in their vocal journeys than he was at her age.
The big steal of the night came after a showdown between Team Ariana members Ryleigh Plank and David Vogel. Plank, who all of the coaches said has a certain “presence” to her, really sang her heart out. She sang “Midnight Sky” by Miley Cyrus. David Vogel, however, came out swinging with a vocally stunning rendition of Selena Gomez’s “Lose you to Love me” Vogel has a very cool habit of covering female pop artists. On tonight’s episode, he mentioned he just connects with their music more.
Ariana wound up going with Ryleigh, but thankfully, this was not the end for David. David got a “steal” from John Legend, and will advance to the live rounds.
If you want to catch the last Knockout rounds, tune in next Monday at 8/7 central.
